Thiruvahindrapuram Devanatha swamy temple is one of the famous Vaishnavite place in the heart land of Chola Empire. Being one among the 108 Divya Desam that are mentioned in the Tamil Azhwars works, Devanatha swamy resides in this temple is considered as elder brother to Thirupathi Venkatachalapathy. There is a popular belief that if it is not possible for any devotees to pay alms in Tirupathi, then it is sufficient to pay the same at Thiruvahidrapuram. Another special mention in the same site is one of the oldest Hyagrivar shrine on top of the hill. Temple opens in 2 sessions, Morning 6 to 12 and Evening 4 to 9, Must visit..
Powerful place, good ambience, no urge to move like Tirupathi. No much queue other than Margazhi month. God looks exactly like Tirupathi, also called chinna tirupati You cannot find parking near the temple. Other than that, all other services are free of cost, no mediators are required to access anything in this temple. Good administration also. Cleanliness inside the temple must be appreciated. Kids can play freely.
Was there on a Sunday and a marriage day so the temple was a little crowded. I think if we go on a week day we can have a peaceful darshan at this very nice temple.
I will start with the location details to temple details. This place is near Cuddalore. The closest railway station is Cuddalore and the bus stand is also Cuddalore. From Cuddalore you can take a bus or auto or share auto to visit this place. The busses are very limited and the frequency is also less. Auto cost Rs. 150 to Rs. 200 and share auto they charge Rs. 20 per person. Both auto and share auto are available outside the railway station and bus stand. If you come via bus, they stop near arch, from there it's just less than 1km, you just go by walk or share auto is also available, and they charge rs. 10 per person. Restaurant & Lodge: We have few restaurants here nothing is a big stylish restaurant. Mostly they are small homely restaurants. There are few lodges available near the temple. I recommend you plan your food and stay in Cuddalore instead of planning in Thiruvanthipuram. Visiting timing, I recommend to visit both the temples before 10am, because it's less crowded before 10am. We have a place for tonsure (you can reach by taking back side entrance or when you get down from the hill temple on you left you find a temple on the road just next to on your left through which you reach the tonsure place. The guest house and bath places are well. Maintained on this street you can also park your car we have some place for this. I was not able to find a public toilet nearby, the public toilet was closed and not in good condition when we visited. The hill temple just has 50 to 60 steps max and it is easy to claim for a normal healthy person. The temple below is wheelchair accessible, also there is a devasthanam food store, where you can get some prasada, when we visited there was tamarind rice and ladus were available.
Shri Devanatha Perumal temple is on the eastern bank of river Kedilam in Thiruvandipuram, 6 kms from Cuddalore bus stand. It is one of the revered Divyadesa shetram. The main deity (Shri Devanatha Perumal) is considered elder to Lord Balaji of Thirupati and hence those who could not visit Thirupati can offer their prayers here. Devi Shri Sengamala Thaayaar in a separate sannidhi. There are seperate sannidhis for Shri Pallikonda Perumal and Shri Ramar (with Sita Devi and Lakshmanan) inside main temple.
Very nice, centuries old. Lord Vishnu Abode! Hyagreevar, lord Ram
Very nice temple and excellent vibe inside. Very ancient and powerful deities. Car parking and by-lanes are a bit chaotic. Otherwise all good.
Well maintained... Ample parking space..car parking Rs.30/- Devanathaswamy temple (also called Thiruvanthipuram Kovil) in Thiruvanthipuram, a village in the outskirts of Cuddalore in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th-9th centuries CE. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Devanathaswamy and his consort Lakshmi as Hemabhujavalli. Though the presiding deity is Devanathaswamy, the temple is known for Hayagriva, the horse-faced avatar of Vishnu, and a god of knowledge. The temple is the only historical temple in South India to have a shrine of Hayagriva on hilltop.
