It is a decent climb up and better to go early morning or evening to avoid the heat. Make sure you climb during the time where people are frequent if not don't take the risk, apart from this the view is to die for, it's silent, calm and not too noisy. Once you climb up top do walk few more till the temple you will find catfishes swimming over there, surprised me how did it happen in the first place and those cat fishes are well populated as well, this has been my frequent go to for early morning walks
Hard walk through 300 steps. Temple is dedicated to Shiva but the main attraction is behind and outside. You have to take the door on the left to see very ancient carvings directly on the rock...
A very beautiful historical temple. Very quiet environment. Main deity kasi viswanathar is in a temple situated at the top of a hilloc crowded with monkeys. There is a natural spring in the temple, which is contaminated but very beautiful. Too many steps,so elderly people and pulmonary patients should think twice before going. Take some drinking water with you. Overall nice place to visit.

Kasi Viswanathar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located at Thiruparankundram at outskirts of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is situated at 1050 feet height above the sea level on the top of a steep hill. Presiding Diety is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi. In the vicinity of the temple one can also see ancient Jain inscriptions and bas reliefs in rock surface. The temple location, by virtue of its height, also offers spectacular view of Madurai city. The climb upto the temple is steep and tiring but at same time very rewarding once you reach at the top.
