A place rich in heritage and draped in greenery. One of the 13 temples that form the 108 divine abodes of Perumal aka Lord Vishnu on Earth and the only one where the main deity is Shri Lakshmana, younger brother of Lord Rama. History has it that Lakshmana and Bharatha met here and had a soulful exchange of devotion towards Lord Rama. Hence the name "Thiru Mozhi Kalam (Land of divine and sweet words) " ,which over time became Thirumoozhikulam. The temple is near to Aluva just across Chengamanad, and can also be accessed by the Angamali-Perumbavoor road. Devotees throng here during the Ramayana month (Mid July). But if you want some tranquil and quiet surroundings here, an early morning visit in the winter is more than worth it.

Lakshmana as the Moolavar deity. Located about 30kms North West of Ernakulam Railway Station is the Moozhikalathan Divya Desam in Thiru Moozhikalam. The temple dates back to the Ramayana period and is a temple dedicated to Lakshmana. Nam Azhvaar in his opening verse of praise on this location asks the true devotees to go to Thiru Moozhikalam to invoke the blessings of the 'pot dancer'. He describes the Lord as one who wears Tulasi garland. This is about 32kms from Ernakulam Junction. Will take about 1 hour by car/auto. There are buses from Alwaye(Aluva) to this temple.
