Unassuming and hidden away. You would drive by without even noticing it. With the river on one side and the sea the other side. It's paradise. A great little surf and skateboard club with incredible instructors. Having an absolutely amazing time

Excellent place to surf. Lot of boards to choose from if you have prior experience. If you are lucky, you'll get to see dolphins jumping around as you wait for your wave .

Fell in love with this place and the people there. The food, the ambiance, the people, the pets, the vibes and the experience just touch your soul. Kindness, care and Adventure. Good place for learning surfing, they help you improve with right feedbacks. As my first time with surfing, I really found this place top notch. Also a good place to get started on skateboarding!

One of the best and most serene places I've been to in India. The calm and soothing vibe of the village! The smiles of the locals and the beautiful hand cooked meals is just what the surf experience is about. A recommended place for anyone who loves the beach and open waters!

Had been meaning to write this for a long time but wasn't sure whether it would make any difference, whether a person like him would even bother accepting his fault or whether the owners would care to teach him. But anyways here goes - My stay was overall good (March 2023) Rahul, Satbir and Capitao were amazing instructors and humans and i met some amazing guests who became great friends. But my overall experience was slightly ruined by a very rude staff called Nithin - who rudely answered everytime i tried to ask some information something about the place or surroundings (i was absolutely new to visiting the south , much less Mangalore) The answer would always be "why are you asking so many questions" . So i stopped asking or interacting with him all together. Then comes the day he starts talking about "beating the hell out of" a dog that bit a local kid. I asked you're of course kidding right ? He said "no, he feeds him takes care of him still he behaves this way." He seemed to be talking like a typical ignorant person unaware of how territorial dogs especially stray dogs are and just cause you feed them doesn't take their aggression or defensive nature out (especially when that's their only defence mechanism against similarly ignorant locals who out of fear beat them /thrown stones at them), that's what I tried to explain the whole argument. This went on for at least 10 minutes with Nithin cruelly showing every intention of teaching the DOG , a voiceless animal, a lesson because he considers them "more intelligent than human beings". Finally he said "I don't want to talk to you, i was of course not being serious". are you kidding me ? Then why talk so cruelly in the first place ? The argument could've been prevented long time back if you really weren't serious right ? Nithin seemed like a very unstable person who probably needs healing and therapy for his own traumas (thinking physical abuse is right to teach a lesson!) I wouldn't recommend any calm level headed and curious guest to be around him or interact with such a rude and unsteady person. He may be very dear to Shaka community but this cruel, insensitive and hurtful way is certainly not the way you should interact with people, especially those who don't know you. Please be mindful of your environment, humans and animals both. 5 stars for everything surf, culture and Shaka - 1 star for my interaction with a rude unsteady staff like Nithin. It was very triggering and hurtful and i wouldn't want to come back to that ever again.

Oooh such a beautiful place! I was physically exhausted everyday with surfing skating etc, but mentally so relaxed and at peace. I cant think of any other place as soothing as shaka right now. I think afternoon naps on the hammock are going to be new calming memory. Beach in the front and backwaters on the back. The friendly doggos, cats, such a vibe this place. Most lovely and laid back folks/instructors you'll ever see. This is a business but its not commercial at all, everyone there is in it for the vibe/passion and you can feel it. Would have loved to stay here longer! Took me 9 years to finally go to this place and definitely didn't make the most of it, but I am sure I'll be back sooner

I had a time of my life experiencing the shaka life. Day would start with learning how to surf, have a cup of tea prepared by a visually impaired person and breakfast, lunch and dinner from 3 different houses which helps the houses around the surf school to grow as well and guests get to taste the local cuisine. You can also camp in the school facing the back waters, there is a skating rink, basketball court, slack lining and kayaking.

It took me 7 months to write this review, because there was so much to express and but little word to describe the feeling. My stay at Shaka was nothing less than a totally different universe. I found my surf community here.. Here, for the first time I learnt to catch my own wave. I made new friends who are the kindest souls and they gave the warmest hug. Love is the language people speak here. And the best part was the food.. the perfect home cooked food made with love. I stayed at Shaka for a month, and it felt like home. Whatever I write here may not do justice to this place. One has to visit this place, stay here and absorb, ride waves.
