This place is beautiful. The garden is well maintained by ASI. There are no signboards regarding the history of the place. You will love this place if you are a history lover.
The timings have changed. I came here on 9.10.2021. in winters closing timings are 5pm. So come before 5 pm. Also Google location shows the back gate not the main entry gate to this place. It's peaceful but don't cum here on a sunny day. It's good if you come in winters, summers are too hot for this place as there's not many trees or shed to rest. The lawns are not well maintained may be due to lockdown. History of this place isn't mentioned anywhere inside the Sarai. you need to read online to get to know this place. Overall peaceful, beautifull, and Cinematic location. But without the history it looks just like a simple ground with boundary wall.
Peaceful place among the hustle and bustle of the area.
Sarai is a urdu word which is like Dharamshala in Hindu. Travellers used to stay here to take rest. This Nur Sarai was built by Mughals for people commuting between Lahore and Delhi. It has 2 gates namely Lahore and Delhi gate. It is spread across acres and used to have many rooms on all four sides along with a mosque and Hamam which is bathing area. As on date, rooms from one side are encroached by people and on one side those got broken. But still there are many rooms available which we can see.
The monument is a quadrangle consisting of 140 cells spread out over four gateways. Inspired by traditional designs, the monument reflects modernity as it blends the best from ancient palace complexes with the Saracenic view of the world of open spaces framed within arches of pavilions and held together on solid yet delicately carved pillars. The monument was built at a time when trust was at its peak between the rulers and the ruled, architects indulged in ornamental windows overlooking spacious courtyards and opened even on the street. Many of the smaller windows decorate the facade where figures and drawings forbidden by Islam are generously depicted. The serai stands out for its blazing red look. Built-in honey-coloured bricks and white marble, the serai has a most welcoming look and must have been a favourite place for guests who had used the premises to rest and to recreate before embarking upon more journeys filled with more agony and some ecstasy. SERAI NURMAHAL, NAKODAR, PUNJAB
Decent place to hang on with family, proper restoration needed for the structure but one time visit is good. Place located in the core city. You can enjoy the big garden there.
Pros - Google takes you to a non parking zone, parking zone is round the corner, Place is very well kept by ASI as a heritage monument Cons- No signboards, or audio / visual way of realising history of the place
Wonderful piece of Mughal architecture but disappointed due to less maintenance and security, without uniform staff which are rarely noticeable is big concern for safety and security of tourists.
