The Salvation Army Red Shield Guest House 2 Sudder street Kolkata 700016 - Hotel in Kolkata - Kolkata, India

Have stayed here over a decade ago. Feels like I have returned home after a long while. Right in the hub of most/all things. Take a peek at the Indian museum, which is right beside this guesthouse. Lots to see. I have had room service here, would suggest the grilled sandwiches . Brekkie is more than substantial and everything very fresh. Prashant and Ratna at the front desk are both very informative and cooperative so are the room boys. Rooms are adequate, opted for air condition. I have totally enjoyed my stay & will stay again on my way back.

Reception staff Ratna, Proshant were very misbehaved persons. They charged me USD75 per day without any amenities they hv committed. Then I wanted to check out next day but they forced me 50% room charge perday.. Then I settle down calling kolkata emergency police @1090... They are mis-using 'Salvation Army Brand' unauthentic way. Surprising one more their check-out time 11.00am this is also against int'l hotel rules & regulations.. Room is damped, stinky, toilet is very saggy, sleeper pair 2 different colors! I do not recommend any foreigner to stay in here..

Located in prime location near new market. Rooms are neat and clean with all amenities. Pleasant staffs and very helpful. I must admit good behaviour of care taker. Room rent little bit high compared to nearby. With and without breakfast option should be implemented. Wi Fi is very fast. Staying was pleasant.

Reception staff Ratna and Prashant very cooperative and decent. Rooms are very good . All staff are very good . Breakfast was delicious .when i visit again kolkata will must be stay in red shield guest house .

I booked this hotel by makemy trip and when I reached the hotel , they told me that they were not accepting visa extension certificates. I was so tired and I had to wait there for almost 30 minutes only for their decision. Later I called makemytrip and request to refund my money. And for that, I had to wait another 30 minutes. In addition, it was harassing for tourists. If they did not want to accept a visa extension certificate they could have mentioned it on their website. But the employees co-operated with me and did not misbehave with me.

Worst experience. The behaviour from the receptionist is not good at all. The room you see in the photos is not the same you get in the dormitory room.

It was once the guesthouse of Salvation Army. During that period, mostly the members of Salvation community used to board there. Now it is just a commercial guesthouse with affordable rooms with basic amenities like warm water, clean linen etc. Most of the guests nowadays are Bangladeshi tourists. It is popular with large family. Exclusive parking facility is an added attraction.
