Nice place for a picnic with friends and family. The route is through the narrow lanes of the nearby village. Located in the middle of green paddy fields, it's well maintained and you can easily spend an hour going around. Good for visiting during winters, summers will be too hot. No tea or snacks shop around so carry your own stuff.

I always find this as the best quaint place nearby. It's a place where I get a feeling that I belong to this place. It's never busy and just a few tourists visit here. It's an example of Moghul Architecture that has stood robustly to date. It is on the old Grand Trunk Road which was the original route. A man-made canal passes nearby. You will be mesmerised to see it. This place is a heritage site declared by the Archeological Society of India and is manned by their guards. No fees are required to visit there. Parking is free. There is no canteen or drinking water facility. We always carry our food and water there. Better to carry a mat along. We take this place as a one-day picnic. It closes in the evening and I always wonder how the two guards are managing this huge place which is so secluded that the nearby house is 1-2 kms away.

A beautiful Historical Sarai... Speaks out History aloud.. It's a fort that was used as a resting place for soilders in the ancient time. Though the place is in sort of ruins but most of it has been preserved. Not much to see since it's a sarai only.. Similar rooms and corridors through out. But the place is well maintained. Quite. Good for a short family get away. Parking : Has ample parking area.. Eatries/ restaurant/ food court : does not have any shops and eateries near by so it's preferable one takes their own food / snacks. Thy can be eaten outside the premises. Toilets : has clean Toilets in the premises. Accessibility : wheel chair facility is there. One wheel chair is available. Video Shooting: video shooting is not allowed without prior permission from their Chandigarh office..but simple mobile pics and videos are allowed. Dslr camera not allowed.

This is just an awesome place near Jalandhar city. Historical place well maintained by the archelogical department of India. If you are traveling and near Jalandhar city this is a must see place. Mughal armour force use to rest here while traveling. Lots of Punjabi film shot here, this place is in very small village. Would like to suggest use Google map while going there. I will visit this place once again.

Awesome place for picnic. Glazed tile art work is a technique that has been employed for decoration in most of the Mughal monuments during 16 - 17th Century in India. Dakhni Sarai is one of the finest and best preserved specimens of Mughal caravan sarais from India. Glaze tile samples of Dakhni Sarai were analyzed for glaze segments and colours that were used during the Mughal era. The samples were studied using stereomicroscopic analysis, EMPA - WDS, SEM-EDX and by thermal analysis using DTA/TGA. The EMPA-WDS results indicated the usage of lead colorants - tin for yellow glazes, copper-cobalt for blue glazes, and a mixture of two for green glaze tiles. The thickness and slip fusion of the tiles with the inner have also been studied. The result showed that oxides of copper/cobalt/lead used as colorant in varied proportion have imparted color to the glaze under different firing environment and temperature. The presence of copper/cobalt could be either due to its deliberate addition as part of the manufacturing process or as traces in raw material. The results proved that the manufacturing techniques of 16th century Mughal galze tile art work show resemblance to contemporary Persian tile works.

The Dakhni Sarai is located just 25 kms away from Jalandhar towards Moga Punjab. This Sarai is the largest amongst all surviving in Sub-continental Saraies built in 1640 AD by Ali Mardan Khan, Shahjahan's Engineer of Iranian decent. The 124 chambers Sarai with massive gateways and fortifications is still vibrant. Archaeological Survey of India has been in the forefront of protecting architectural marvels.

Wow, what a wonderful place. Quiet and peaceful with an unparalleled architecture. It's so out of the way that even some of the locals are not aware of it.
