The Birchwood Retreat - Resort hotel in Suntikoppa - Kodagu, India

Great service, staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The dinner could have been better for the prices we paid but it was ok. The free breakfast buffet was stellar, highly recommend the ghee roast. The rooms themselves are great and amenities provided are splendid. One negative is the horrible network connection within the villa itself and the fact that I got zero cell service didn't help but that's not necessarily the retreat's fault. The pool had a few leaves and such around when we were about to take a dip but staff came by quickly when we got there and cleaned it up. The cycles weren't the best but they fixed them when we pointed out the problems. There are a few dogs on the property that are quite friendly as well. For ~250 euros a night for the villas we were 5 adults and one kid, for the price it is definitely worth it and honestly a really great stay, a really great place to go get away from it all.

Good things - Great looking Resort right in forest of Birchwood trees, tea/coffee plantation. The entrance lobby to the reception area is pretty nice and big. A big parking space is available. Rooms are pretty huge. Not so good things - This place gives a creepy vibe. It's a bit isolated and surrounded by thick forest, so it's extremely peaceful, but sometimes so much quietness feels a bit creepy. Rooms are stinky and need room freshener. Food is decent quality but pretty expensive. Complimentary breakfast is decent, but lacks options. The swimming pool is decent, but not that clean. Not really up to the expectations.

We took our pets along with 90+ grandmother & entire family. Everyone is aware of the location so I won't write much about the "Scotland of India" place. Service and rooms were beautiful beyond our expectation. Humans and pets were taken care of alike. Such are the places where you wish to visit time and again. They had also deployed a lady employee (Asha) for 4hours for our granny & pets, so that we as a family could visit the near by tourist spots. What more can one ask for ??? Food is made to order and perfect. Feels like home cooked (this even for pets). It's a must visit stay. The only negative is limited spread of breakfast but then again it's a personal opinion, while my parents enjoyed the spread and felt it was enough. The villas in the midst of jungle/coffee plantation & a complimentary tour to the coffee estate is an experience worth living for !!!

"Many lapses in service and definitely not worth the money spent Having paid 25k+ per night for the villa, the expectation was that of a luxury experience. But the reality was substandard and extra charges for every small thing. Paying anything over 12k per day for the villa is not value for money given that basic things are not taken care of. Cons 1. Villa was not clean. We entered and there was a smell of it not having been used for a long time. 2. No microwave provided but mentioned in the description. 3. Locker was broken. 1 out of 3 days no solution. Next day we were handed a master key to operate. 4. Housekeeping would take soiled towels and not provide fresh towels. Had to call them everyday to deliver fresh towels. 5. Housekeeping did not clean the garbage bin for 3 days. 6. Toiletries we're not replenished after first day. 7. Stray dogs enter the campus and there is barely any fence to prevent them. Family member was almost attacked in front of the villa by a stray dog. 8. No keys for room doors/ cupboards/ balcony doors provided. Basically in the villa there is no provision to keep valuables or yourself safely. Please also refer back to point 3. 9. Using the gas in the kitchen has a separate charge. 10. Some of the gates to the rooms we're not constructed properly and wouldn't even close. 11. TV is large screen but no HD channels making it useless as everything is blurred. 12. Pool was filthy. We were there for 3 days. On day 1 we were told it's dirty due to rains. Till day 3 we regularly checked the pool and decided against entering due to the filth, lack of constant filtering and non replacement of pool water. 13. Milk carton in the kitchen was free on day 1 but chargeable on other days. Maybe expectation from the customer was to make 3 bookings of 1 day each to get 2 cartons of Rs. 30 each free. The worst part was that on checkout I mentioned this in my feedback form and especially wrote that I want a callback from the manager. Have not received any callback. It shows customer centricity. Pros 1. There is nice natural environment. 2. Coffee plantation tour was nice. 3. They arranged balloons for a birthday in the villa. 4. Accommodation and food provided for the driver in the villa itself.

Best place to visit with a family and to relax. The view isn't the best but it is worth the price. The food was good but not very healthy as it was oily and excessive for a breakfast. The service was nice and helpful for navigating through the resort and helping with the necessities. Would Definitely visit again.

Extremely horrible restaurant service. There are insufficient water glasses, insufficient chairs. The serving team is horribly trained. I requested the reception to connect with someone for a feedback, they said please mention it on the feedback form. The chef is good though. He should look for a better job.

Very mediocre experience for a high price - there are better alternatives. We went primarily for the swimming pool and were so disappointed to find it filthy. It seemed like they were trying to clean it every morning - but there was no difference. Highly disappointing since they advertise the property with visuals of the pool. The property is also very close to the national highway - so sleep can be interrupted for light sleepers. The food was good - but limited options for dessert. Rooms were spacious and clean. Overall - not worth the high price tag.

Spider's web on bed frame. Mattress was dirty. No tandoor item even on Friday or Saturday (even though mentioned in menu)- whwn asked they mentioned not enough guest(still took more than half an hour to serve fruit salad with icecream), food quality not consistent- second day fries were not crispy and too oily, pool was not clean- stagnant water- filter was not on, not accessible for people with mobility issue- especially the plantation walk and the shooting range, snooker table one side was broken so ball was going to floor. Very near to highway so traffic sound at night- not a peaceful stay. Overall over hyped and not value for money
