Thattekad Bird sanctuary Bridge - Tourist attraction in Velielchal - Ernakulam, India

Nothing fancy just a normal bridge. The view from the bridge is very good. If you are going by bike and it's morning or evening just stop by click some pics and go on. As there's not much populated area there wont be much traffic so stopping on the bridge is not an issue. After this bridge there comes the Thattekad bird sanctuary, you can visit that place also.

Lovely place . Anyone would like it. It has a great historical shiva temple on the bank on one side and bird sanctuary on other side. The view of river and bridge is awesome. Chose the right time to visit it .

Landing on the banks of the Periyar in the morning is an experience all birders would enjoy. Little river terns flit across the Periyar's surface in fantastic aerial sorties, while pied kingfishers expertly hover overhead before plunging into the water for a well-directed catch. To the east, the Njayapilli Mountain, 1,716-ft high, cuts a dark silhouette against the early morning sky. Thattekkad, Kerala's first bird sanctuary, was established in 1983. It has now been renamed the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, in honour of the renowned ornithologist. The 25.16sq km sanctuary is cradled by the tributaries and tiny streams of the Periyar basin, and includes a part of the Bhoothathankettu Dam. With over 300 recorded species of birds, Thattekkad has been described by Dr. Ali as "the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the Eastern Himalaya".

One of the best birds sanctuary in Kerala. Lot of migrating birds spoted here especialy Sreelankan frog mouth(Makkachi kaada). Its scenic beauty gives refreshing ambience with the presence of Periyar River.
