Cons: Park premises not maintained well. Heard voice of few birds but couldn't see them. Lake seems dirty and boats are on shore. Also 5 or 6 cages are there in which a lion tailed macaque, snakes, peacock (one bird), tortoise etc are kept. Thought Why these are kept there instead of birds. Pros: A small children's play area is there which seems a little good for kids. A tree house also felt good. Salim Ali Bird Trail (opp to ticket counter) is good one which gives a feel of a small forest.

However, it's unfortunate to hear that the park's condition is not up to par. It seems like there's room for improvement, and it would be beneficial if the government took steps to meet tourist expectations and enhance the park's appeal and i dont know how many years they need to do so. You can watch peacock and parrots roaming around if you are watchful

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is a great place to spend a whole day. You can see a group of dedicated staff from scientists to gatekeepers who are doing a commentable job in keeping this place as tourist-friendly as well as nature-friendly while on an extremely lean budget. The only star I am taking off from the rating is for the want of better maintenance. It is ideal that you reach here by around 07:00 AM. The birds and butterfiles are most active at that time they say. October to December is apparently the best season. The place has a good bird museum which has numerous educational materials both in Malayalam and in English. It is artfully designed as well. There is a parking ground at entrance itself. The ticket counter at the main gate is also a kiosk selling tshirts, caps, forest produces and handicrafts. The cafeteria is currently running minimally and all we got to buy were icecreams. It should ve selling full meals. If arranged in advance, they also provide guided treks deep into the jungle. They have dormitories for camping and regularly conducts awareness programs and classes on topics connecting to environment, forest, ecosystem and herbs. By the way, they have a well curated medicinal plant garden as well.

The sanctuary's offerings in terms of sightseeing and activities are somewhat limited. Birdwatching enthusiasts will find it enjoyable, but those seeking a broader range of outdoor experiences may not find it fully satisfying. In summary, the bird sanctuary is a beautiful location to reconnect with nature and enjoy a short family outing. Just be mindful of your expectations, as it may not provide the extensive attractions one might associate with a sanctuary/park.

A sanctuary away from all the rush and busy roads.Can have a relaxed good time for trekking. Don't plan the trip during off season as you won't even find sparrow.But you will have a treat if you go during the season.

Thattekad bird sanctuary is not that much good but forest trekking is super warm and cool place for staying and for trekking and photogenic for bird watchers with salim ali's rememberance...

I went on 20-08-2023 and felt very disappointed as we cannot even see a crow. Before we could see some birds and monkeys in their cage and now we can see only one monkey and two python. I think that the rest of them would have been died due to bad caring.Very disappointed to our kerala govt. If you want some peace then you can visit here and don't go for birds and animals nothing is there.
