Thalathoor Heritage - Home Stay in Perumbala - Kasaragod, India

It is a place for people who like to enjoy the blissful calmness of nature....wake up to the sounds of rain and chirping of birds. I was looking for a place which can offer a different experience from the resorts or hotels we usually choose for stay during vacations. My kids were not particularly happy about my choice initially and by the end of the vacation, they really liked my choice and missed this home more than I did. I wouldn't call this a homestay, we rather felt we were at one of our own Aunt's home. Shyamala aunty welcomed us into her home like members of her family. From Day 1, we felt so connected to the calm and homely environment there. We would join Aunty and her help, Sheela, to watch her cooking. As the name suggests this is indeed a heritage home which dated back to probably the 1850s. The home sits in a huge property and lot of greenery around it. My kids made friends with the house pet - Paachi. In the evening, we took short walks through the small muddy paths and farms to take a trip to the nearby small teashop (chaya peedika) for a hot cup of tea and if you are lucky, on the way you can spot goats, peacocks or even water snakes!! The people around are very welcoming and we never missed a chance to have a quick chat with them. Our plan was to have a slow and easy holiday, so we did not pack our days with activities. This is located not too far from most of the attractions. We visited Bekal fort with its magical views of the sea from the fort, Thrikannat temple (famous for the prayer offerings for ancestors), Ananthapura Lake temple, Madhur Siddhi Vinayak temple. For people who like to learn about the culture and theyyams of North Kerala, you must spend some time talking to Shyamala Aunty and that has inspired me for a 2nd visit during the Theyyam season. To me, a must visit spot is, Chandragiri river with the hanging bridge, was my favourite among all the places I visited in Kasaragod. For Malayalees, the visuals look like they came out of one of Sri. MT Vasudevan Nair's novels, such scenic beauty!! The calm river shining in the evening sun with Moytheen Ikka rowing our boat with his share of stories about the river and the village. My parents would stay back at home comfortably enjoying their conversation with Aunty about the different temples around Kerala. Aunty's food was lip-smacking, with some of the local favorites, which we haven't tasted before. You should not miss the Viceroy Hotel Biriyani and our Aunty's biriyani as well. . The amenities provided during the stay were more than sufficient for us with towels, toiletries etc. The rooms had aircons and attached bathrooms with geysers if you may need. You may want to keep a mosquito repellent if you are travelling with young kids. Aunty also helped to organise a taxi for our commute and Subair Ikka was a pleasure to travel with and always promptly on time. And for short trips, she also organised autos for us. We wished we could stay longer to experience more of this place, and we are definitely coming back!!!

Our stay at Thalathoor Heritage was perfect in every way. The peace and calm of the surroundings, the beautifully vintage house with artistic trinkets and decor, the amazing hospitality extended by Mrs. Nair and the biggest highlight .. her food !! Every meal was unique and delicious and so so satisfying ! Mrs. Nair also helped us setup our itinerary with great recommendations. This is a must visit place if you want to enjoy nature and the culture of this wonderful part of India.

I stayed with my family here for my Wedding. The host, Mrs.Shyamala is a wonderful person. She was very accommodating and helpful. The food was amazing. It's such a calming and blissful property to stay at. Thank you so much for having us Mrs. Nair

This is place that is true to the name... A true HOME STAY. I stayed here on work and had one of the most relaxing times during work travel. The food is exquisite and the experience of living at this home is blissful. I am so lucky to have come here by chance. As a bonus I saw so many species of birds just sitting outside the house. It was unbelievable. Do not miss a chance to stay here!!

Owner of Thalatoor Heritage, Mrs. Shyamala hosted me and my family for an authentic Kerala lunch that was just out of this world.. all of us enjoyed the meal to the fullest..it included some traditional fish recipes and veggies hand picked from their own farm. A very warm person with a positive vibe, who is preserving her heritage and culture with all humbleness. The lunch was arranged by our travel curator, Mr. Vijay who also gave us a tour of the property. Definitely a place worth visiting if you want to connect to the roots and enjoy some peace. Beautiful rooms with calm and peaceful surroundings. It's a pleasure to walk in the garden, lake and play with the dog. We are the avid travelers and I can say, this is the best place with best hospitality i have ever been. Aunty with her food can't be described with words. She cares each and every guest of her with love and compassion. Thank you Auntyji for everything. Love from my son Ishan.

If you're looking for old world charm then this is the right place for you. The House in itself has things you could explore for days. There is also miles of walkway you could explore. A true Kerala calmness. A unique opportunity to explore nature at your own leisure. But the best thing about this place is the host - Shamala aunty. She will strive to provide you with all the comforts. The food, the amazing mouthwatering food! Every meal had unique new flavour. As a single vegiterian amongst my family Shamala aunty delivered dishes that were scrumptious and unmatched in its freshness. Would 100% recommend.
