Taj Swarna, Amritsar - Hotel in Amritsar - Amritsar, India

I have stayed at several other Taj Hotels and have always been thrilled. I have always been particularly impressed by the attentive, helpful, and amiable staff. The next thing to mention is the incredibly delicious cuisine. The breakfast dishes alone are a feast. Now we come to the Taj in Amritsar. This hotel is also in sound, not new condition. The rooms are reasonably clean and well-maintained. The bathrooms are well maintained but could do with a few touch-ups. Unfortunately, the Taj in Amritsar has one major problem: the service at reception and dining room. We often had to wait 20 minutes for the ordered coffee or tea. We often had to wave the waitress over to us. No attention was paid to us, even though only a few other guests were in the dining room. The chefs were often standing around in the kitchen on their mobile phones. Orders were forgotten, and we had to keep asking. The servers mostly talked to each other and only attended to the guests when requested. The staff obviously have no interest in providing good service. The breakfast buffet also fell far below the expectations we are used to from Taj Hotels. It was loveless, always the same thing every day. The reception also needs to be more staffed. And you still have to wait. No friendly words, greeting, or interest in providing good service. Our almost week-long stay at the Taj Amritsar was a great disappointment.

The staff need lot of training. The room service staff, while polite and courteous, only provided one bathrobe and one hand towel for my wife and me. Upon requesting, a second hand towel was provided. This request had to be made every day. The food was very bland and tasteless. We were forced to eat outside food to get some tasty food. This caused is to get food poisoning. The staff at the restaurant need to be trained as well. They never provide a teaspoon with a cup of tea. We had to specifically request for a teaspoon everyday. The table napkin were full of lint and and our clothes picked up the lint and we had to change our clothes. For the rest of our stay, we didn't use the napkin. Disappointed with the Taj experience. I was also told that the Taj loyalty program is for people with an Indian mobile number, which is another disappointment, considering that we stay at Taj twice a year.

Nice property, good hospitality,food is also nice but they can further work on improving the services they provide at breakfast time. Though when I went it was crowded so understand the hassle but doing it smoothly and gracefully and not showing it on faces is what Taj is good at. But this place lack that grace. Every server seems to be stressed, missing orders, avoiding eye contact so that nobody should ask them to bring anything was little unprofessional and can be improved.

The rooms are absolutely fantastic and luxurious and the hotel staff behaves very politely. Overall nice ambience. Highly recommended!!

We have stayed there for family Holiday, overall facility is very nice. Staff is courteous and cooperative. There was water leakage in bathroom, but facility team repaired it promptly. Improvement area is buffet service for breakfast and dinner. The staff looks confused and running everywhere, but service is getting delayed or forgotten. Need to be organised better and well trained.

It was a great experience while staying for 3 nights. Staff was fantastic in the expectations. Kids was safe while they were alone. Will definitely recommend to our family and friends.

The worst experience ever of my life. Stayed for 3 nights but right from starting no response by duty manager regarding the car. Secondly already had mentioned would be arriving at hotel at 3pm the room was also not ready. Third during the visit to Attari (Wagah) border the driver said you are not allowed to take wallet or purses inside so kept in the car & left but came back again towards the car since had forgotten something to collect it from the bag & was totally shocked to see that the bag & purse kept on the backseat were there on the front seat & also the bag & the purse were opened & money was being taken by the Taj Hotel's driver. Saw this in front of my eyes still the driver denied & tried to threaten us. Post coming back to the hotel told the duty manager to call the GM or the VP of the hotel. But none of them were available. Some sales & marketing guy came & listened to the incident & apologised. The worst nightmare we had faced being a Gold Tier member & had booked an executive suite still the worst kind of service & hospitality. The only good thing was the food quality & quick service by Mr Gaurav & Mr Rishi in the restaurant.

Swish lobby with nice flowers and relaxing live music in the morning. Rooms and beds fine and well equipped, you might need to spend a bit of time working out the lighting controls before you get into bed. The main restaurant has a reasonable selection on its buffet and attentive staff. If you order dosa or eggs with your breakfast prepare to wait, seems like your order is sometimes misplaced. The bar is reasonable but the Aircon is set so low you need an extra layer of clothes or just ask the staff to turn the temperature up. While we were there the musak was so distorted as to be unlistenable but none seemed to be able to turn it off or even down. These two factors made the bar a pretty poor experience the first night but we're rectified the second night.
