The Taj Mahal Palace in Bhopal was built by Shah Jahan Begum. The palace is very beautiful from outside. The interior as heard is amazing. Since now the palace is being converted to a heritage hotel so the caretaker does not allow anybody inside the palace. There are cctv cameras all around outside just to keep a watch that no one enters into the palace. The property now has become a private property. The architecture elements of Islamic architecture is well portrayed in this building. Great was the vision of our historical rulers and their infinite knowledge and also the highness of the craftsmanship at that time period. Apart from Taj Mahal in Agra this is another Taj Mahal which is in Bhopal.

The building was originally named Raj Mahal ("royal palace"). The British Resident at Bhopal, highly impressed with the architecture, suggested that the palace be renamed the Taj Mahal, the Taj Mahal at Agra having been built by the Begum's namesake Shah Jahan. The begum accepted the suggestion and the palace was renamed to Taj Mahal.[3] The Begum is said to have ordered a three-year-long celebration called Jashn-e-Taj Mahal after the completion of the building. After the partition of India in 1947, Nawab Hamidullah Khan allowed Sindhi refugees to stay in the palace. They stayed in Taj Mahal for around 4 years, before shifting to Bairagarh. The palace suffered some damage during this period.[1] After India's independence, some members of the royal family of Bhopal stayed at the palace, but gradually moved away, as they had no money for the repairs. By 2008, large parts of the palace complex had collapsed. The palace was declared a state heritage monument by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2005 and the state archaeology department carried out restoration in parts. However, it was de-notified in 2011. Until 2013, the Taj Mahal was under the archives department. In 2014 the monument was handled over to the Madhya Pradesh tourism department.[4] In 2017, a private builder from Indore, was handed over the property on lease to develop the sprawling 19th century structure into a 120-room heritage hotel. This place is the oldest place of bhopal, however closed now for public views but if you see from the lake side then you will realise that its so beautiful and photogenic place, once the home of maharaja of Bhopal.

There seems to another wrongly tagged location. This is the actual one. This is a very sad sight to behold, but something that I wish more people would see. So that the authorities are motivated to renovate this site to something that would suggest its heyday glory. For something named after a symbol of beauty it is barely maintained. The interior is infested by street dogs and the person who seems like the "caretaker" said that entry is restricted.

It would be a great tourist attraction if it could be renovated and made accessible

(Visited in September 2019) - The monument is now a property of a private hotelier. Work is yet to start. It's all ruined and locked now. No need to visit.

The palace is let to ruin itself. Would really appreciate some renovation and restoration works
