Taj Bawdi - Featured Reviews (162)
Another monument of Adil Shahi period. Built around 1690 by Ibrahim Adil Shah II and named after his begum Taj Sultana. Made specifically for supplying water to residents. Google Map shows Taj Bawdi at two locations. Tried to rectify but couldn't do so.
Remains of ancient water storage. Nothing much to see.
Adil Shahi rulers built over 340 intricate stepwells & around 700 tanks within the fortified walls of the Bijapur city. The most stunning is the Taj Baoli, built in 1620, named after Taj Sultana, the queen of Ibrahim Adil Shah II. It is a large 223 ft square well, 52 ft deep. Stone steps lead down to the water's edge.
Remains of some water tank, not much to see, serving as car park, and being closed! Discussing with local children, it's used while religious festivals..

Built by Adilshahi, this is a tourist attraction. This huge water body never gets empty. Fortunately, swimming & washing clothes is banned now. But general cleanliness around the bawdi needs lot of improvement.
