Statue of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy - Monument in Panihati - 24 Paraganas North, India

The statue was situated by a committee who love Sir A PC Roy. The local people who stay in the locality commonly are from khulna district now in Bangladesh which is the district of P C Roy, so this is named as A P C pally. And the road named as A P C ROY road.some of us usually gathered together (every year ) on the birthday 2nd August and death day 16th june of this great scientist to show our respect gratitude. .... Our great national teacher....

It's my local. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy was my the first chemist of India. He founded the famous company "Bengal Chemical", which was the leading brand on the 70-90s. He was my ancestor. My grandfather was the chairman of the APC Roy Foundation. Sadly he also passed away. I'll always be proud to be descendent of him.

Prafulla Chandra Ray, born 2nd August 1861 was a Bengali chemist, educator and entrepreneur. Despite having a doctorate in science from Edinburgh University and excellent educational credentials was not able to secure a position within the Imperial service due to the discriminatory attitude of the ruling government towards native intelligentsia. He joined Presidency College, Calcutta as temporary Assistant Professor of Chemistry in 1889. In 1896, he published a paper on preparation of a new stable chemical compound: mercurous nitrite which made way for a large number of investigative papers on nitrites and hyponitrites of different metals, and on nitrites of ammonia and organic amines. He started a new Indian School of Chemistry in 1924. He was made a CIE or a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire in 1911 and was awarded a knighthood in 1917. He was president of the 1920 session of the Indian Science Congress. The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) honoured his life and work with the first ever Chemical Landmark Plaque outside Europe. As a successful entrepreneur he set up Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Works Ltd in 1901, which is the first Chemical & Pharmaceutical Company in India. He died on 16 June 1944.
