This church is been located in Kattanam...this church has a history like to build this church land was been donated by Hindu family so if the fest need to take place there Family need to gather and light the lamp later only the fest gets start....there u can find most of them visiting people will be Hindu

One of the biggest churches in the area. St. Stephen's Orthodox Syrian Church is a parish of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (Indian Orthodox Church, part of the Oriental Orthodox Church). This is home parish to 1500+ families. People from all races, castes and religion come here to pray for their near and dear. The feast of St Stephen is commemorated with utmost importance on the 3rd week of January every year for which thousands gather and receive blessings.

Known by its pet name Kattanam Valliyyapalli is Officially St. Stephen's Orthodox Syrian Church stands at the main junction rendering the junction it's pet name Pallimukku as the elder brother to the Malankara Catholic Church across the road to the north, the Marthoma scarcely 2 furlongs to the west and the Roman Catholic Church and the CSI churches in the vicinity . The Original church and the 8 acres of land surrounded functioned as a community parish and strongly associated with a prominant family of Kattanam its Patron Mathoony Kuruvilla Tharakan of Aanyill kudhambham . The land purchased by Aaniyil Mathoony Kuruvilla Tharaken from a neighbouring family Puthen Vilayil , another prominant Hindu family for 100 Rashi a Gold coins of very high denomination. in circulation under the Travancore Kingdom . However Malayalees whose communal bondage n harmony as is non- existent in any other past of India from centuries as to this day helped Kuruvilla Tharaken by returning 99 Rashi Gold coins afyer the Gentleman learnt the land was being bought to build a Church. Thus the original church run by tbe Aaniyil family and priests has become an important landmark of Kattanam , a hope and succour to people of all religions having deep faith by taking part in its prayers , worship, festivals n other activities. The Patron Aaniyil Mathoony Kuruvilla Tharakan who established the original Church ( extended , enlarged n renovated now thrice) is buried at the doorstep immediately to the north whose grave unfortunately stands on his grave under its foundation. Most of the families of the Patron live in and around Kattanam namely;- Aaniyil,Kannekara, Karyadil , Mankavil, Velangaden among others { ( 'others) will be ascertained, my knowledge limited to these, regretted }.
