A beautiful Church in madekeri coorg. So well constructed and beautifully made. We just visited during the day but did not attend a service there. So during the day you can visit and go inside the Church. It will look like it is closed, but go to the last door and it will be opened and u can go in and pray.

Been here on Christmas 2018 evening. Church was splendidly decoreted with beautiful lights and flowers. Some idols were made for display in church area. Spacious and accomodate ample number of people. It was a calm and spiritual visit.
Kodagu,a small cool hilly district, was an independent State, ruled by the Rajas of Haleri Dynasty in the 18th century. After the death of Lingaraja in the year 1780 A.D. Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore, seized Kodagu and under the pretext of protecting the two young princes, Veerarajendra and Lingarajendra and their families, he kept them Gorur in Hassan district. After taking possession of Kodagu, a garrison was kept in Madikeri. In the Army of garrison there were a number of Christians as soldiers and camp followers. Father JOCHIM MIRANDA ,a missionary who was friendly with Hyder Ali, with his permission and help built a small Church at Madikeri in 1781A.D for these Christians near Raja Seat. Tipu Sulthan, son of Hyder Ali, anti Christian suspected that the Christians of Kanara were sympathetic towards British, captured the entire Christian population of Kanara and Kodagu and were deported to Sreerangapatana with the idea of converting them to Islam. He destroyed all thy churches over his domain. The Madikeri Church also suffered the same fate. When most Rev.Sharbano was the bishop of Mysore and Kodagu, Rev Fr.KERIZUIR built St. Michael's Church in Madikeri in the year 1857 A.D. The church was 70 feet in length and 25 feet width. In 1862 Fr.Kerizuir renovated this church and added a corridor on either side of the sanctuary with 30 feet in length and 12 feet width. Two towers were constructed in 7936 and mini Altars were set up/ Rev Fr. Dr. Raphael Arokya Swamy built the present BELL SHAPED Church in 2000 A.D. It can accommodate nearly 1000 devotees. This Bell shaped Church Bacons the devotees for prayer and meditation. The area of church is 6000 sq feet. The newly built Church is majestic, safe and beautiful among the buildings of Madikeri.

Didn't go here during the service. Was peaceful and pleasant. Good to photograph from the outside. Lots of walking space in and around. Easily accessible too.
Very beautiful Catholic church in Coorg / Madikeri. Very silent and prayerful atmosphere in this church, located in a prominent place, with good space around and a school adjacent to it. A must visit place when you go to madikeri / Coorg. When we visited catechism classes were in progress, great to see kids learning catechism, which is a rarely seen these days.
