According to the church officials and docs this church was build in CE 1001. Which obviously undergone multiple restructuring. The St Sebastian status in the church was brought by Portuguese. And the huge church bell was also believed to be brought from France in the 16th century. Few stones of the church has the old Malayalam inscriptions dating 16th century. There is a floral stage in the church which usually seen in old Portugal design was the stage for scriptural speach. There is a hanging lamp outside the church, called aana vilakku, which translates to elephant lantern was presented to church by then Kochi king, Shakthan Thamburan. Devotees believe that the oil from the lamp has special healing power. There are painting outside the wall of church depicting the Tippu Sultans invasion to then Kochi kingdom.
