St. Jerome Fort - Fortress in Daman - Daman, India

The fort has no access or entrance fees issue.. it has a school and church inside the compound of the fort. You can view the sea from the walls of the fort.. there are restoration, repair works in progress... worth visiting if you have time.. Daman jetty, Moti Daman fort and Lighthouse are visible from the fort.

As we enter the complex of Daman Fort of St.Jerome you shall first notice the opulent gateway facing the river with a large statue of St. Jerome who was one of the most renowned priests of the Catholic Church. St. Jerome, who was born Eusebius Hieronymous Sophronius, was the most scholarly of the Fathers of the Western Church. He was born about the year 342 at Stridonius, a small town at the head of the Adriatic. The principal building inside the fort is the impressive Church of Our Lady of the Sea. This Catholic Church is one of the earliest seats of office and has an excellent altar with superb paneling. The ramparts are a good place from which to take a clear view of the fish market and small fishing fleet which anchors alongside.

Located towards the River Damanganga, St. Jerome Fort is an ancient citadel that gives detailed insights into Daman's rich colonial history. Built by Portuguese. A huge statue of St. Jerome welcomes visitors at the entrance, which also has two large human figurines on either side. Premises used as a school at present times, is another important attraction within the fort complex. From the fort, you can view beautiful surroundings that are characterised by a river, lush greenery and fishing boats docked along the riverside. Good attractive beach you can view from here. Dislike - not maintained by local authorities. Required immediately action. School is inside well maintained.

Nothing special. I only found the front view of Fort interesting. Unless there is provision for maintenance, the place will continue to deteriorate with receding tourism.

Met this beauty on the way to Mumbai from Daman. An old fort but worth the walk. It peeks over the Daman Ganga river meeting the Arabian sea. The fort is strong and houses a church and an English medium school. Could also see a cemetery in the premises. Scenic place

This fort is near Nani Daman area. It is an Portuguese era fort. You can take your car right till the entrance of the fort . You will also find the lady of oceans church inside the premises of the fort.

Decent fort.. but nothing to do there Bit of a walk around and a church there...

St. Jerome Fort is one of the great castle but not very well maintain as you seen in photographs but history is always crucial but with time make beautiful, further more church is nice and quiet place. Overall experience is nice
