It was by chance that I got to be in Cherthala and also visit the Basilica at Arthunkal. It's a marvelous piece of architecture, both the old and the new church. The new church faces the beach which is a minute drive or walk. On the way to the beach you'll find the police station also. Words aren't enough to express the divine presence one feels inside the church. There are a lot of tableaus around the church depicting the various events in the Bible. There's ample parking outside and a few stores to buy candles, rosary beads, Bibles etc. There's space to burn and offer the candles. Whether you're a believer or not, it's a must visit place in Cherthala.

In my view this is the best church that I have seen in Kerala......It's a bit distance from the Alleppey proper but worth visiting. In my views THE BEST in terms of aesthetics...But the Golden Church in Kochi near Lulu Mall is the best in terms of Grandeur
