Srivilliputhur Andal temple, virudhunagar district is one of the 108 divya desams ,dedicated to lord vishnu worshipped as Vatapatrasayi and his consort Lakshmi as Andal. It is the birth place of two alvars namely Periyalvar and his foster daughter Andal. The temple was constructed in dravidian style of architecture, glorified in Nalayira divya prabandham built during 8th to 10th century CE. Inscriptions from chola, pandya, vijayanagar nayaks were recovered. Thirumalai nayak (1623-1659) and Rani mangammal (1689- 1706) renovated the temple tanks, golden towers inside the temples. The temple tower 192ft is the official symbol of Government of Tamilnadu. The Andal shrine houses the statue of Andal and Rangamannar. Srivilliputhur Temple belongs to one of the 108 divyadesams of Lord Vishnu. This temple is said to be of 2000 years old and initially known as Varaha Kshethra. Here one of the two deities is Andal - believed to be Avtar of godess Lakshmi - was found as a baby near a Tulsi Plant in the temple garden and was looked after by Periazhvar, a strong devotee of Vishnu.
