Ulagalandha Perumal Temple is a temple dedicated to Vamana Murthy ( Incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu) Vamana, the Brahmin dwarf, and one of the ten avatars of Vishnu, is held to have appeared here to quell the pride of the asura king Mahabali. As Ulagalantha Perumal, he is believed to have appeared before king Mahabali and the Alvars this This temple is located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Temple is Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th through 9th centuries CE. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Ulagalantha Perumal, and his consort Lakshmi as Amuthavalli. The temple is believed to have been built by the Pallavas, with later contributions from the medieval Cholas, Vijayanagara kings, and Madurai Nayaks. According to the inscriptions this temple was built by Nandiarma III in the year of 846 to 869 and was later renovated by the Pallavas and Cholas. This temple is located in Kancheepuram district and is very near to the famous Kamakshi Devi Temple. The Ulagalanthar Perumal temple's main deity depicts the Vaman avatar of Lord Vishnu which stands about 35 feet tall and 24 feet wide. The lord shows his one finger of the right hand, symbolizing his first step and shows two fingers of the left-hand symbolizing the second step for the third step he raises his feet above denoting the final step on Mahabali's head. This form of the idol of Vishnu is knowns as the Trivikrama. Other than this the temple houses four more Divya Desams namely Thirukkarvaanam, Thirukaaragam, Thiruooragam and Thiruneeragam. Kanchipuram is located at a distance of 76 km from Chennai. It can be easily reached from cities like Chennai, Villupuram, Thiruvallur and Vellore. Inside the city, we can get lots of Share autos which take us to the important destinations of the city at a very reasonable price. Vamana Murthy here is made of Lime. So Abishekam is not performed. Sometimes some specially made paste is applied to the Murthy, so that it is not damaged and retains its glow. Adishesha prayed Lord Vishnu to be there in Trivikrama rupa, so it is called as ULAGALANDA PERUMAL TEMPLE. In Tamil it is called as"URAGAM". Uragam means Snake. There is a special place for Adishesha and pooja's are also done. You can find this on your left while going near to the main deity.

The temple is classified as a Divya Desam, one of the 108 Vishnu temples that are mentioned in the book. The temple is unique among Divya Desams as it is the only temple complex that houses four different Divya Desams.

Om namo narayanaya . Ancient temple. One of the Divya Desam among 108. Located at very near to Kanchipuram bus stand (Walkable distance only). Main deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu's pose is Trivikrama (Pose is Amazing and Magnificent). In this temple, three more Divya Desam is there (At the Prakaram).

I'm very much impressed with this Perumal than any other place. The sculpture was very different and looks very very old. Yes! As said, the temple is very old than any temples nearby. Maybe I liked coz of it. One of the very oldest temple in Kanchipuram. Visit and see for yourself!
