Sri Mangalambika Vilas Coffee Hotel (Since 1914) - Vegetarian restaurant in Kumbakonam - Thanjavur, India

This hotel has been operating since 1914, it's the old one. I had so many expectations by seeing the videos that were posted in YouTube. I'm very disappointed because the food served here is not worth the money. The Aval was very bad. I didn't like any of the dishes. It's damn crowded due to very little sitting. The taste was not up to the mark. Finding out this hotel was also challenging because there are some other hotels with the same name next to other streets. The coffee was good. But it can be better. If you are a coffee enthusiast, this place is a must visit if your are visiting Kumbakonam. Tucked away in a small lane in the Adi Kumbeshwar temple complex, this place claims to have invented the famous Degree Coffee 110 Yrs ago. Invented or not, the coffee was brilliant. Thick cows milk being blended into fresh aromatic coffee decoction was a treat. Will definitely visit again.

There are some places where you go just for good food taste. Let me tell you this is no ordinary place. This is one of the oldest local coffee place in Kumbhakonam. It would be unfair if I say food taste was great. The taste was delicious (cant be explained in words) I have never seen such humble staff in my life. If you love to explore local food local cafes this is a must visit place for you.! This place cant be defined / explained by ratings.

Simple and economical lunch. Good Tiffin like Aadai Avial. Tucked in the shopping lane in the lane leading to Adhi Kumbeshwarar street, this place is worth a visit while at Kumbakonam.

108 year old hotel serving pure vegetarian food breakfast lunch and evening snacks. Simple old fashioned decor. The famous Degree coffee was invented here. Food is served on plantain leaves and the place is clean. Located in the congested market area this place is best accessed by walk.

Breakfast was good and the authentic original degree coffee was excellent. This is the place where they first Invented the Degree Coffee.This shop has been there since 1914, 108 years old restaurant. That's stunning. There are few other restaurants with the same name. But the original one has the name Vilas in the end. It is located inside the way to the temple. Have attached the photos of its outside and from 200 meters away. The Authentic Original Kumbakonam Degree coffee costs 35rs and it is worth it. Give it a try.

Happened to visit here with much expectation, since this eatery was hyped much for their filter coffee! Tried their full meals which was very normal and okayish. Had the signature Kumbakonam Filter Coffee which is being said that they are the one who introduced this filter coffee first and hence it is named after the town as Kumbakonam Filter Coffee Coffee was really good and coffee was really worth the hype! Since this eatery is located inside the temple premises, it is small and you won't get any parking space. Service is good and ambience is okay and pricing is also reasonable! Must try stop for all coffee lovers
