In view of Architecture, this is the BEST temple in the city of Kollam. Every Keralite will be proud about their architecture after seeing this temple. Unfortunately this temple is not so visited by everyone. But I am sure that after visiting this temple once, he will feel to visit the temple again.
The temple is situated in the heart of kollam city. Temple is not renovated is maintained in old structure. Big stone pillars and all. Famous when discovered old malayalam writings in the stone pillars. Good pleasant ambience and one of the biggest mahadeva temple in kollam district.
One of the oldest Shiva temples, considered to be founded in threthayuga by Parasurama. Silent, calm and peaceful atmosphere, the main deity is Lord Shiva popularly known (here) as "Rameshwarathappan". Lord Ganapathy, Lord Subramanian, Lord Ayyappa, Naga devathas are other deities here.

This is one of the four Shiva temples built by the Natukotta Chettiar, a prominent mercantile caste who were worshippers of Lord Shiva. One fascinating feature of this temple is the sculpture of Vyala, the mythological monster. There are several inscriptions here written in Tamil, which date between the12-century and 16-century. The annual temple festival is celebrated in Jan/Feb every year. This is probably one of the best tourist spots in Kollam!
I may be biased in my opinion as this temple is close to my moms maternal home. From childhood have been visiting this temple. A quite calm serene place. I love the tenday festival that happens during the end of jan to start of feb sometimes based on the Hindu calendar. A right time to understand your culture and roots.
