Mahaakuteshwara temple is a 6th century temple constructed by chalukya kings and also the main attraction here you can see inscriptions dated between 595-602. There is a temple tank and well maintained. Also a free meal is provided to the devotees. Noted: there is no bus service ( connecting directly from badami ) pls plan accordingly during your visit.
The Mahakuta group of temples is located in Mahakuta, a village in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka state, India. It is an important place of worship for Hindus and the location of a well-known Shaiva monastery. The temples are dated to the 6th or 7th century CE and were constructed by the early kings of the Chalukya dynasty of Badami. The dating of the temples is based on the style of architecture which is similar to that of the temples in nearby Aihole and the information in two notable inscriptions in the complex: the Mahakuta Pillar inscription dated between 595-602 CE (written in the Sanskrit language and Kannada script) and an inscription of Vinapoti, a concubine of king Vijayaditya, dated between 696-733 CE and written in the Kannada language and script.
It is a very old and beautiful temple. Built by Chalukya on the 6th or 7th century. Group of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva with different names. Its located 14 km from badami with good reachable roads. Take bath in Kalyani and visit temple. Lot of South Indian films shooting done her. Visit with family and friends.
This is a group of temples that seem as good as abandoned by the ASI and damaged by tourists. There doesn't seem to be any security or upkeep of these monuments. There is no entry fee or regulation of activities of tourists at what should have been a respectable group of monuments. Tourists/visitors don't know how to respect the age of the monuments, historical importance of the place, or even the religious significance of its moniker "Dakshina Kashi". They seem to be mainly coming to play in the waters of the temple pond, and their next activities are: a) Changing clothes inside the garbhagrihas of the various temples and b) Drying their clothes, including underwear, on the monuments. I mean, really!!!? Jahan dekho kachhe sookh rahe hai! If you come to the place in winters, your would be able to trek up the hills and enjoy some adventure, good views, and breeze. In summers, skip this place from your Badami itinerary unless you are an architecture or archaeology student and want to learn something from the monuments. Photography opportunities are also limited here, though not non-existent.

Divine and blissful place. Beautiful stone sculptures and temple is located in Badami, Pattadakallu Rd, Bagalkot District. Shiva lingam is located under water where one must dive into a pond and seek blessings. People should not throw plastic waste and garbage. Please keep the environment clean and enjoy
Nice place to visit for students and people who are you interested in history and archeology. No proper maintenance and cleanliness. Best place to bring young kids.
Anicient temples built by Chalukyas, Mahakooteshwara and other temples. But destroyed by Adil Shahi sultanate of Bijapur and Pallavas. Otherwise the scrulpters would have been wonderful to watch... Still there is lot to offer from monuments. Enjoy
