Abosulute serene !! Always wanted to visit our Kannadiga's known first dynasty capital place from long time and blessed to witness more than 1800 years old temple. It was first established by early kadamba rules and later kadamba , chalukya and most recently Vijayanagr-Sode family kings have developmed this temple. Even after 18-19 centuries from its first construction temple still stands good and carvings, pullers are so fascinating to watch. Lord Mahadev is medication guru and this temple this one of the made suited for very uniue Madhukeshwara (Honey colored lingha) Temle premises makes an absolute bliss Note: Temple is little inside small town Banavasi so doesn't expect high values restaurants . But there are small shops to quench hunger thirst.
Beautiful centuries old temple carved in black rock. Mesmerized by the architecture. Huge nandi idol. Has lots of other small temples dedicated to other deities. One can walk by the stairs to the adjacent varada river. Worth visiting.
Most pristine devastana I've come across in modern times. It holds one of the oldest linga of Bharatha. More than 2000 year old architecture marvel can be witnessed here. Vishnu stapitha Madhukeshwara - honey colored lingam is a glory to watch. Surrounded by dattatreya, karthikeya and aadimadhava is true beauty of art and culture. The Ardha Ganapathi showcases knowledge and the other half I'd believed to be in Kashi. Lakshmi Narashima and ma parvati are also present. It has many dieties such as Indra and Yamadharma. It host a beautiful Nandi which challenges the top civil engineers. This place was visited by Parahurama, Rama and Pandavas as per historical references. The stone bed is gifted by 16th century rulers. Triloka Mattapan of 13th century and Ratha - R chariot of 17th century are just a latest edition to this marvelous place.
Oldest town of Karnataka and was the capital of the Kadamba empire. The complex believed to have been built in the 5th century on the banks of river Varada. Nandi, lathe turned pillars with reflective surface, king throne are the main attractions in the temple complex.
An ancient temple which is a treat to your eyes. Banavasi is known to be there oldest town in Karnataka and the Madhukeshwara temple is a gem in whole of Karnataka. The temple is open throught out the day and doesn't close during noon hours. Ample car parking is available at a nominal charge. It wasn't crowded when I visited on a Sunday noon. Refreshing pineapple slices are sold outside the temple which is a must have. It was tender and sweet. And quite affordable.
A 1600 AD Temple with beautiful designing built by Kadamb Dynasty. The statue of Nandi in the Mandir . The Nandi statue at the Shikhar of temple is 3D showing the high tech construction existed in 1600 AD. A very beautiful Shiva, Parvati, and Ganpati. Must Visit
Really must visit place. Loved this temple sculpture. Got lucky to get temple food. Very nice.
9th Century temple which was built by different kingdoms over a period of several centuries. Started from 2nd century and as and when kings came then constructed some different parts of the temple. I would recommend reading the history board on the left side of the temple when you enter it. The architecture is typical Malenadu style with slanting roofs for water to flow away.
