What a beautiful, serene place this is. It filled me with awe, not just the buildings, which are breathtaking, but with their serving free food, without any discrimination, to around 100000 people per day. Everybody is welcome to eat there. We did not eat there, but the immensity of the operation is huge and subsequently requires donations to keep this service going. If you visit this place, you will not be disappointed.
The Golden Temple in Amritsar, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is an iconic Sikh religious site and a must-visit destination. It is a place of profound spiritual significance and architectural beauty. The stunning golden structure is surrounded by a serene and picturesque lake, creating a sense of peace and tranquility. The temple complex is open to people of all faiths and offers free meals to visitors, showcasing the Sikh principles of equality and selfless service. The interior of the temple is equally impressive with its intricate artwork and gilded walls. The atmosphere is often filled with devotional music and a palpable sense of spirituality. However, the temple can get crowded, almost daily and especially during religious festivals, so it's advisable to visit during quieter times for a more serene experience. Overall, the Golden Temple is a unique and spiritually enriching place that is well worth a visit for its cultural, religious, and architectural significance.
Incredible place, especially by night. The temple is open 24/7 (free entrance) and is a peaceful and welcoming oasis for believers and visitors. You can volunteer and help preparing the meals that are offered all day/night long. Sitting by night close to the holy water and watching the life of the temple around me was a powerful experience.
A place of immense historical and religious significance. It is one of the most important religious temple for the Sikh community. The free meal (langar) is a must to do if you visit here. During Diwali the whole place is illuminated with lights creating a unique experience and ambience for all visitors.
Felt very honored and blessed to visit this gurudwara. There is so much history to explore around this site and I appreciated the care that went into preserving the ornate paintings and inlays inside of the temple. It is a beautiful temple and surprisingly quiet and peaceful despite how busy it was when I visited.
Golden rays of sunrise gleam, Offering hope in a tranquil dream. Lustrous shrine in Amritsar's heart, Divine beauty, a sacred work of art. Eternal peace in its hallowed dome, Nurturing souls, a spiritual home. Tranquil refuge for the soul, Echoes of prayers, a sacred role. Majestic in its architectural grace, Peaceful aura, a hallowed space. Luminous in the candlelight's gleam, Enveloping all in a serene dream.
Amazing experience. Can't recommend enough. So peaceful. Such wonderful people. A good place to sit and reflect. Many people take naps here in the covered arcade along the walkway and I can see why. Highly recommend going right before sunset. The transition is breathtaking. Like many places around here--if you look quite different than the crowd, if you are white and have light eyes and blond, for instance--you will get many sustained stares and some asking to take photos with you. It isn't aggressive and you can decline. Just be prepared. If you may need to take a bathroom break at some time, check in your shoes on the entrance that's on the other side from the walkway to the temple (East) as it's not ideal to have to go there barefoot.
This place is so surreal, peaceful and tranquil. We went for 10am and wait time to get into the shrine was 1-1:30 hours. It was well worth it and the 1st and 2nd floor is breath taking scenery. We visited again in the evening to see the night view again worth doing both day and night.
