Spread Eagle Falls - Featured Reviews (854)
nature enthusiast, I wanted to see this strange named waterfall. We walked for 20 minutes after reaching the point from where the walk starts. Did not find any waterfall and even the staff accompanying me who were from Shillong had not seen it. We gave it up after sometime and thought nobody should waste any effort looking for it.
This september 26 2023 we visited this area guided by google map, when we reach there we find nothing....A big wire fence covered by ferns and plants, when we enquired local people they replied it cant be seen now a days, view point is all covered with trees, and there are no accessible roads to the falls. Same case for Beadon Bishop view point, the road is broken
This place not very accessible or well maintained. It is as natural as nature gets, but only if you are okay with the pollution in the stream. I couldn't reach the waterfall, neither attempted to because of the polluted end of the stream where I started.
But the catch here is that, if you follow the trek uphill like I did, you will enjoy a very pleasing view of the pine trees.Location: East Khasi Hills District, Shillong
Located within the Shillong Cantonment, on the outskirts of the city, lies a sparkling waterfall which looks like an eagle with wings spread. Hence the name Spread Eagle Falls. The falls is locally known as Umkaliar or the falls into which Ka Liar slipped. A soothing setting amidst the calmness of nature - a treat to the eyes.No any road is found for the wonderful place communicating is very bad for the place visitors waste time for searching the place no security and name place is availabe for the wonderful place for which visitors avoid this place8 KM distance from Shillong Town, opposite eastern air command HQ; best to visit in the month May,June,July,August,September,& October. It's pleasant environment best for family picnic.Local people here are very respectable and very welcome to all who visit here. It's also called the sweet falls.. its kinda not so famous like other places in Shillong but the view is worth it. Especially if u go early in the morning wid no one around.A must visit for any tourist travelling in the north eastern states of India. It's in Meghalaya, and what a better way to start/end your journey other than taking a picture with the beautiful waterfall in the background.A place where you can fell the majestic nature of North Eastern India. It is a beutiful and tall water fall, a place to go with your friends and family. But elder persons will face problem for going up and down by narrow stairs to see best part of the water fall. If my advice really helps you, please give it a thums up
If people have idea of photography, only then you'll get pictures as in shown here. The place is so unhygienic. I got a very disappointed feeling reaching there. And to the spot going is too dangerous.
Want to spend few hours of your life in a calm and serene environment in the lap of the nature, then you should not miss to visit Spread Eagle Falls in Shillong!! This gorgeous fall is located only 6 kms away from the city and from Polo Ground, it is only 3 kms. Also popularly known as the Sati Falls, the Spread Eagle Falls are one of the widest waterfalls not only in the Shillong but in the entire region around Shillong also. The falls form an emerald pond below and the pond itself is so appealing that the words seem to be very less to describe its beauty.
If this is a hidden gem, it possibly needs to stay hidden from human eyes. I for one, couldn't find the place by following the Google Map directions.
Spread Eagle Falls, I remember this place when we were young we use to swim but now it's not a stream worthy of it's special features as clear water. Now all we need to fix our river system clean once again.

Tourists, do not come here! This is the entrance to the so called 'falls'. I did not waste my time looking for any falls beyond this fence
Disgusting trash

An unvisited tourist place in Shillong.
Best water-falls with less crowd.
The road going to this place is small but scenic.
It will take you inside the rhino base camp and then passing by the village you will get the spot at the end of the road.

The view is really good. Specially the early morning sunrise, the sunset and the night view of the city from the top of it is really heart melting. Although walking all the way up was really hard and tiring but in the end you won't regret the view.
