Must visit to see the nicely explained space explorations and scaled models of rockets and some of its original parts.
Fantastic place to visit, the only drawback is that it's closed on holidays (and weekends). Best day to visit the entire compound would be Wednesday as they launch sounding rockets on that day every week. Advance booking of tickets is important, carry your ID card and remember, no photography inside the premises. (The photo attached is of a nearby water body which I saw on my way)
If you love ISRO, and want to know its history since its inception, go to the Space museum in a church at Thumba. Photography and videography are prohibited. You must take prior permission online and show the reference number at the check post. Then you would be issued a pass after depositing your phone and smartwatch. You can choose to walk or taking a free shuttle from the check post gate to the museum. I could click only one picture of a canal outside the campus.
Must visit to see India progression. Impressive. Good guide and neat and clean well kept place . Great for Kids and adults both
This is the birthplace of the Indian space programme, the place where top visionaries and scientists like Vikram Sarabhai and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam laid the foundations of ISRO. The museum has all the models of ISRO's launch vehicles and major spacecraft. We can also see the original capsule that flew to space and was recovered as part of the Space Capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE - 1). Additionally, sounding rocket launches take place every third Wednesday of the month (sometimes the day changes).
It's one of the important place as far as ISRO is concern but the Musium is ok to just spend like not more than 30 min. The government has to make the venue more user friendly where we lean and a sovereign shop to buy home a miniature of the models available inside
Great serve to nation . From the days of having a church as control room, the bishop's house as office and a bicycle as ferry and naked eyes to track the smoke plume at Thumba in Kerala and converting a toilet into a satellite data receiving centre in Bengaluru, Indian space odyssey have come a long way to ferrying foreign satellites, launching moon and Mars orbiters, and now planning to land on the Moon. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is the pioneer space exploration agency of the Government of India, headquartered at Bengaluru. ISRO was formed in 1969 with a vision to develop and harness space technology in national development, while pursuing planetary exploration and space science research. ISRO replaced its predecessor, INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research), established in 1962 by India's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and scientist Vikram Sarabhai, considered amongst the founding fathers of Indian space program.
It is really wonderful place for those who love space and innovation. There are several models of the satellite and rockets invented by ISRO. Thus, we can get a complete picture of our nation's growth in space and research. Most importantly, there are staffs in site to explain each and every component of the satellites and rockets, those lessons are well informative and I have learned a lot about space and those staffs are really friendly they have clarified my simple doubts. Also, digital theater is the other main attraction in the museum where they play videos about ISRO since it's beginning eara, it is really wonderful and I really proud of my nation and its growth in space and research among world powers.
