Must visit the place if you are going to Dharmasthala. Situated at just 18km away. This is one of my most awaited temples to be visited and finally visited and very happy and blessed. One of the best temples I can say in the way it works. Very different from any temple in the world. No restrictions of any kind, open space for the idol that is no Garbhagudi, They have timings for everything for Pooja, for prasadam and also for Anna prasada for devotees. This place has a different positive vibe full of bells and you can also see animals like cows, monkeys inside the temple roaming freely. If you wish for somthing and tie a Bell it is said it will be fulfilled. It is said that even if it rains the deepa that is lit in front of Ganesha doesn't go out. If you go to Dharmasthala you will get many Cars that take you to this temple and bring you back to Dharmasthala for 100 Rsper person.

-Sowthadka in Kannada means Sowthe (Cucumber) + Adka (a vast plain; field). The temple is located in lush green surroundings and is known as one of the Siddhi kshetras. It is believed that devotees who pray to Sri Mahaganapathi have their wishes fulfilled. -Devotees offer bells to lord Ganesh on fulfilling their wishes... - After the afternoon Pooja anna prasadam will be there, I like how they follow Hindu culture, like only after prayer is offered to God we are allowed to eat and food will be served in banana leaf.. - Avalakki seve, appa kajaya is famous prasadam here, you will also get a combo prasada which has all the varities of prasadam in it.. Traveling distance to temple: -About 35 km from Kukke Subramanya Temple and about 16 km from Dharmasthala. Distance of 3 km from Kokkada in Belthangady Taluk.. -History of this temple: According to the sthala purana of Southadka, a Ganapati temple revered by a royal family was once destroyed by enemies. Not to let the enemies destroy the beautiful idol of Ganapati that was at the temple, cow herds of the place carried it along with them and installed it in a place where cucumber was grown in plenty.
