This is not a popular trek spot. On weekends also selected numbers of people to visit this place. The grade of this trek is easy to slightly medium, rout marking is available on the path. But there is not having food or water option near this place. Have to bring all the necessary things from Karjat railway station...
Description:
There are 2 forts by name Songiri in Maharashtra, one near Karjat in Pune district (also known as the fort of "Avalas") and the other near Nagothane in Raigad district. Songiri in Raigad district was one of the supportive forts like Birwadi and Surgad to protect main forts like Avchitgad, Ghosalgad and Talgad. Songiri is a small fort, and there are 2 dried up water tanks on the top, with remnants of ramparts and mansions. This was used as a watch tower.
Songiri fort is a fascinating trek in Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra. Songiri Trek is located at the elevation of 2500 feet above sea level. Songiri Route
Palasdhari station is the nearest station to Songiri Fort. Once you reach the station, the fort is visible. You would need to walk to the base village i.e Avalas village. It takes you about 20 Mins to reach the base village. The trail to Songiri trek from here would lead you through thick jungle, you will witness some beautiful landscapes, birds chirping and gushing waterfalls, but beware of wild animals and snakes. Ideally, it is advisable to go in a group as you might get lost in the jungle, it is always very helpful if you have a group while trekking in such parts. It takes 2 hours to 3 hours to ascend from the base village.
Easy trek, nearest railway station is Palasdhari cool view from top during mansoon.. Follow the signs or you might get lost.. Various flora and fauna present.
It is a beginner level trek. Height is about 2500ft above sea level.
For starting this trek firstly reach palasdhari station next to karjat Station (kindly carry water and food as the same is not available at palasdhari station). The songiri fort peak can be seen from the railway station itself.
For reaching there you have to walk through railway track for almost 1 to 1.5 km. And then take a left from the railway crossing which is before the khopoli railway tunnel.
There are marking made to convey the route towards the peak for trekers. Many people get lost and thus wasting more of their time to again reunite, so kindly stay together.
After reaching the peak there is more space to discover on the opposite side of the peak.

This is a small trek with almost no cost.
Moderate trek giving full trekking experience. You need about 2:30 hrs to reach till top. The road to the peak becomes stiff so need to carry enough for constant energy. Once you reach the top you will not find many things except for long grown grass and flag. There is no any place to rest at the top. So after doing photoshoot you need to start climbing down. Down there you will find few places to take some rest and have some snacks so no worry. As you can constantly get dehydrated you need to carry enough water bottles with you.
We have visited the fort. The most challenging part was to find the exact rout. We have spend almost 1 hour to find out the exact way to reach to the top. After completing almost 90% trek there is a rock patch, the trail was not clearly visible. And it was covered with grass, you have to very careful while completing this patch. Rest of the trek is easy. But while coming back we lost the trail again and we ended at Mumbai-Pune railway track, so from there we have to walk almost 750 Meters to find the main road. Make sure you mark properly your trail so you can return from the same trail. View is worth it
Great trek!!
I won't say it is a beginner's trek. It is a short trek where you can reach the top within an hour. You can take your bikes and car till the base and park them there. You can take your vehicles above another base point that will help you skip 1 or 1 1/2 km but it is kaccha road full of stones that may cause difficulty.
It is close to Palasdhari village.
The route seems a bit difficult as there are no proper steps to climb which makes it slippery along with the slope.
There are signs and boards at every point which is damn helpful. There are no shops/ places to get food or drinks during the trek. So it's better if you carry everything.
Overall it is a good trek. The view from the top is surreal!!!!
Only thing to mention - wear shoes with good grip!!!
As long as you are on the right trail, you are safe, be not over confident. There are snakes that we encountered next to water falls, rocks and dense area. They are Vipers. Not one but multiple. Trek Safe. If you miss your trail, return back and trek again next time. Better LATE then NEVER.
