Beautiful ambiance, delicious Bengali cuisine combined with old world charm makes this restaurant a must do, if you are in Raichak. The downside is that they have only fixed thalis and are open only for lunch.
Great ambience..... We went on a family lunch. The atmosphere is extremely wonderful. The restaurant is decorated with all the creations of Rabindranath and will let u feel the simplicity of rural life, Coming to the food, They serve both veg non-veg food. However, the food is awesome and you will love it. From luchi-cholar dal to misti doi, each and every Bengali delicacy is present. It would have been great Aesthetic experience of staying in Ganga Kutir in Raichak I went to Sonar Tori Ganga Kutir in Raichak with my family It was a lovely experience. My sons played in the lawns. There were lovely ponds with lotuses. The ganges view on one side was lovely. There was lovely pulao, shukto, dal parshe fish curry, rasgula, curd, ghol, chutney, jhinge posto karaishuti kachori, chicken curry. Food was awesome. Tagore's poetry was engraved on the walls. It was a masterpiece.....
The food was authentic Bengali thali and we had a view of Ganges from the resturant. Food is going to be expensive here as compared to Kolkata. You can see the menu attached 1500 and 1200 non-veg thali and 900 veg thali , taxes extra.
If Raichak on Ganges is a destination then enjoying authentic Bengali cuisine at one of its flagship restaurants Sonar Tori is an experience. The moment one steps in, will feel the heritage rolling down from all every ceiling and wall. The interior showcases derelict zamindar house located next to Ganges. The grandeur of the dining hall though looks dated but will leave you awestruck. Amidst the derelict grandeur, huge variants of a la carte along with king-size zamindar thali came like a breath of fresh air. Team of PanchPhoron had an opportunity to explore some of the delicacies. Our sincere thanks to the executive chef Sammya Majumdar for hosting us for the day. Aar Tele Jhale has aar fish cooked in rich tomato gravy finished with garam masala and clarified butter. Sorse Diye Parshe er Jhal is parshe fish cooked with poppy and mustard seeds paste. Pabdar Jhal has pabda fish cooked with red spicy gravy. Sorse Eelish Bhapey is a hilsha delicacy where steamed fish cooked in yogurt and spices. Mourolar Bati Chocchori has tiny river fishes cooked with potato and brinjal. Bati Chingri is again a steamed dish where marinated shrimp cooked in chili and mustard gravy. Chitol Muithaa has a roulade of chitol poached and cooked in golden yellow tomato onion gravy. Daab Chingri is an iconic Bengali dish where prawns are cooked inside green coconut shell for that white creamy coconut gravy. Finally, in desserts one must not miss Patishapta which are crepes stuffed with coconut and jaggery mixture topped with rabri, Malpua which is Bengali style pancake simmered in sugar syrup and Bhapa Sandesh is a steamed delicacy cooked by wrapping banana leaf. If one fancies and has appetite to have a taste of all then the recommendation is for Zamindari Thali. This is an exotic spread for food connoisseurs comprising of four veg and three non-veg selections along with Bengali sweets. At INR 1500 plus taxes this platter is a complete journey of Bengal's art of culinary. Built with utmost attention, Sonar Tori is much more than only a restaurant serving Bengali food. Through its food and taste, Sonar Tori captures our Bengali culture in every way that is rooted in our soil and touches us in every sense. Plus this all can be experienced while sitting next to the Ganges.
I would have given a five star but is disappointed by a misinformation given by the management over phone. Our sole purpose was to try out the Zamindar thali in Sonar Tori and called the restaurant to confirm if the same is served for dinner. We were answered positively. So we landed there on a Tuesday night for dinner and were told that the thali is not available for dinner except for Saturdays and Sundays. With a sad heart, we ordered whatever else were available at the moment and had a sumptuous meal. Though what they served were all delicious and juicy, we came back home much discontent.
Authentic Bengali cuisine at its best. Located in the famed raichak on ganges property adjacent to the Ganga kutir, this restaurant gives an old feel. The backdrop of the Ganges adds to the feel. Decorated with pictures and collections of the preindependence era and resonating in the melodious Robindra Shongeet, the restaurant offers lip smacking Bengali dishes. We had the non veg thali each. Bhetki in mustard was simply awesome. The rice, desserts, flavoured chaach and the brinjal fry tasted so good. The service is good. The waiters take care and ask you about how you find the food. They help you with extra servings should you need some. Would love to go again.
Visited on a Saturday.Meal quality is great, hence the price is justified .good for a afternoon visit. The resort is well maintained and the view is stunning. It has a vintage vibe. The menu might vary from time to time based on availability. They allow meal sharing. Highly recommended!
Excellent in every aspect. Beautiful environment and polite & decent atmosphere with The Tagore memory. Love it. Foods are just wow though it's costly.
