We took two classes at the sita cultural centre and they arranged a mehndi artist for me too. We took the cooking class and kolam class both were amazing. Manisha took the cooking class and it was fantastic, the market trip was great, we made a dal fry, veggie dish, chicken dish and pudding. Her teaching was great and she is just a lovely person to spend time with. The food was delicious and I look forward to recreating it back home. The wonderful Lakshmi took our Kolam class and it was so interesting learning about this traditions history and so much fun having a go. I cannot recommend the Sita Cultural centre more highly, the staff are all so lovely and friendly, I wish we had been there for longer! Also the mehndi artist did such a phenomenal job on my feet, I've recieved so many compliments. Thank you to all the staff, we hope to come back again one day!
Extremely pleased with the cooking class. My friends and I learned to make a full thali set, consisting lemon rice and 3 sides (vege dal, vege masala, chicken masala), dessert, and drinks (lemon tea, and masala chai). We spent approximately 4 hours in total, including a trip to the market to get fresh ingredients, preparing the ingredients, cooking all the dishes, and sitting down to have lunch together. Our teacher was also very patient, friendly, and keen on answering all the 'side' questions we had (e.g. what is this vegetable/spice, what is the most spicy chilli, etc). Overall, it was a very educational, enjoyable, and enriching experience. I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in tasting a slice of south Indian life.
The cycle tour they conduct is good for anyone who wants to explore all the major places to visit in Pondicherry and also if they want to know about the history and culture in Pondicherry. My host made me so comfortable in the whole tour. She let me click pictures and told me all the details about the places we visited. It was so amazing to know the town through a local. Some of the places we cycled around were the white town, we went along the lanes where the heritage houses are built, the popular Bharathi park, Pondicherry museum, churches, and there were a lot other places. You can contact them for booking the tour. They were very helpful.
We did the bicycle tour with breakfast. Our guide was Manisha. She is very courteous, friendly and well informed. The tour in itself is quite interesting. The breakfast is good and sumptuous. Would recommend to go for South India breakfast. Sita cultural center also conducts various workshops like yoga, dance, message, cooking etc. They have these scheduled on weekly basis and can also organise on request.
We went there to enquire and the cost for everything is too much. 2hr bicycle ride costs 1500 per person which I found bit pricy considering you can do it on your own by renting cycle for 150rs per day. I guess they have put the price consider foreign tourists.
We took baking classes at the Sita cultural center. It was a wonderful experience; we enjoyed the entire session & would definitely try all the other activities these guys have put up on their website when I visit Pondy next time. I highly recommend this place to learn something new and wonderful.
