Sirpur lake - Tourist attraction in Indore - Indore, India

Much underrated and is the best place to watch birds nearby in city itself. I had no camera gear even then I was able to watch 12 species of birds there. Also best for cycling and running.

Indore is a magnificent city of Madhya Pradesh. Away from all traffic of that city there is peace in sirpur Lake. Less pollution than the suburbs, beautiful birds to watch, and a nice walk with someone, heals any kind of depression you are going through. It has been one of the most important places where I could go every weekend with my books. Also wanted to go with my loved one here, but now she isn't here with me but for you guys this place is always open, there is no fees to go inside, just go and spend time with your loved ones.

Sirpur Lake is a truly enchanting destination, especially for those who appreciate tranquility and the beauty of nature. The serene surroundings make it a wonderful retreat for quiet and nature-loving individuals. To enhance the overall experience, it would be beneficial to consider improving security measures and adding food stalls. These additions would undoubtedly contribute to making Sirpur Lake an even more delightful and secure haven for visitors.

I loved it went during wet days i.e rainy season so thus the surrounding greenery was very much flourishing plus it is already so green due to many beautiful trees surrounding it. Walking road is kept so natural at their best. I appreciate the government and authority here they should keep this that way. I've got to know about ramsar sites too for the first time in my life when i entered sirpur lake, it is one of the ramsar site too. It is the need of time we all should preserve water and protect trees. The visit was so awesome it made me so connected to the nature and there was so much peace. I'll be putting some pictures i could take i couldn't take much cause i got some call and didn't get enough time to capture and i was getting late hope i wud visit it next time.

visited this place on sunday its well maintained clean and peaceful place. must visit if you want to do bird watching. be aware of chapri crowd

Sirpur Lake was created by the Holkars of Indore State in the early 20th century. After the independence of India and extinction of the royal houses, religious sites started mushrooming up around the lake and over the years it was encroached upon by the people living in its vicinity. Illegal activities like fishing, poaching, cattle grazing, waste dumping, etc., almost destroyed the lake's ecology. As the lake was restored, it became the home to many avian species and started attracting migratory birds, including ruddy shelduck, which migrates from Mongolia and Siberia for wintering at Sirpur. A total of around 130 species are listed in the book, The Birds of Sirpur.
