Sindhudurg Fort - Fortress in Malvan - Sindhudurg, India

Must visit once, you have to take ferry from shore 100 rs for adult. Not much places to visit as renovation work is going on. Best time to visit fort between morning 8 to 11 and evening 4 to 6. I would suggest Go in Evening as sunset looks great from fort.

This is first time we visited this fort with friends vacation time. this place is definitely very very busy place specially to have the boat ride to reach the fort. We took guide to get some insight about its history and findings. Remember be Hydrated as it's a very long walk inside to see all the points. Overall nice place and great historical place to show kids.

Rs100 ferry charges. They give you 1hr to visit fort. Not maintained properly. Evening is the best time to visit as you can see great sunset view.

Very disappointed. No maintainance inside the fort. Locals have setup shops inside and have ruined the essence of this historic monument. They should all be thrown out as they are helping to contribute to the garbage inside the fort. The boat ride there and back and the approach to the fort is great though. They are strict about wearing life jackets on the boat. The PM is visiting a few days after my review, hopefully the place is cleaned up. Maharashtra really needs to start looking after all it's forts as almost all are neglected.

Sindhudurg Fort is a historical fort that occupies an island in the Arabian Sea, just off the coast of Maharashtra in Western India. The fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the 17th-century ruler of Maratha Empire. The fortress lies on the shore of Malvan taluka of the Sindhudurg District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, 450 kilometres (280 mi) south of Mumbai. It is a protected monument. Its main objective was to counter the rising influence of foreign (English, Dutch, French and Portuguese) merchants and to curb the rise of Siddhis of Janjira. You can easily spend a few hours exploring the ramparts and bastion. The fort also provides amazing views of the sea and surrounding area. The entry fee for tourists is Rs.5/- per person taken in the name of cleaning it. Since the fort is situated on an island, the only way to reach it is by the means of ferries which are quite easily available from the Malvan coast. Fee for the Ferry is Rs.100/-per person for round trip and for kids it is Rs.50/-. It takes 10 minutes to reach at Fort. Parking spaces are available near the beach only. Like other tourist places, this place is crowded with eating joints/stalls run by locals there and a lot of plastic litter has occupied the fort area as well as it outskirts too. A lot of construction/renovation activities are going on presently in the fort area. I wish and pray that the fort gains it's popularity but the crowd that is attracted presently there is actually spoiling it's beauty. People are least interested in knowing its history and most interested in taking selfies and pics. But still a worthy place to understand the main Maratha history.

Visionary Fort by our Great Leader Chh Shivaji Maharaj... One can see his footprints here. Boat ride is awsome. One hour is given by boat people which is sufficient. Buy any handmade cold drink or eatable to help people livelihood.

Well-maintained old palace buildings. A small interesting museum. A restaurant with tasy food (available only with prior booking).

Very nice fort and must visit when you you visit Malvan. Do hire a guide to know the history of our great Shivaji Maharaj.
