Siddhanchal Jain Temple Caves - Jain temple in Gwalior - Gwalior, India

These are a group of Jain monuments on the way to the Gwalior fort via the Uravi gate side. Sadly nothing to tell you why and what they are. So whatever you know will be from the net ( May or May not be accurate ). Parts of the monuments are on the incline of the approach road especially where it's narrow. These areas you may be at risk from up / down traffic. So if you are really keen on seeing these you will need to park near the Scindia School and walk maybe about 1km OR there is small parking just as the road starts to descend. The sculptures are well preserved ( why they got spared when all the nearby temples were vandalised centuries ago ? Anybody's guess) Fill your soul with the peace in the eyes of all these Jain Monks.

On the way via Urvai gate to Gwalior fort you will first get awe struck by the Siddhachal Jain carvings. Most of the Jain idols had been chiseled during the 15th century, though few date back to the 7th century AD. There are a total of 31 idols which were defaced during Babur attacks in 16th century. If you have a day extra in Gwalior do visit Gopachal rock cuts which houses 1500+ Jain tirathankar's Idols. Couldn't find any caretaker, although it was maintained and cleanliness ensured.

Siddhanchal caves are having carving of Jain Tirthankars. It is situated near the Gwalior fort. It is situated both side of the road. I was awestruck by these sculptures and richness of it's beauty. One must visit this place for sure. Proving the history of Jainism throughout.

One of the must visit places in Gwalior. If you're a peace lover you must spend some time here. Here is an amazing giant sculpture of Mahavir. You can see ancient rocks and caves. Lush green surroundings makes it more beautiful. During rains it became more beautiful. Situated in the heart of city it provides a great view of city too.

Impressive beautiful statues. It is written it was created in 14th century, but some are obviously older than that, specifically on the right side: few are almost completely worn out, which suggests that they are much more older than 14th century. Perhaps, 9-10th century.

Siddhachal Caves are Jain cave monuments and statues carved into the rock face inside the Urvahi valley of theGwalior Fort in northern Madhya Pradesh, India. There are the most visited among the five groups of Jain rock carvings on the Gwalior Fort hill. They were built over time starting in the 7th-century, but most are dated to the 15th-century CE. Many of the statues were defaced and destroyed under the orders of the Muslim Emperor Babur of the Mughal dynasty in the 16th century, while a few repaired and restored after the fall of the Mughal dynasty and through the late 19th century.
