This pooranakala sivan temlpe established by Kamathenu ( theiva Pasu) on instructions by mamuni Vashister was later expanded by chola and Pandya kings and later renovations done by Vijaya nagara chieftains . Many donations were made to this temple during Pallava period also. This place is where Inthira devan gave the chaste woman Arunthathi in wedlock to mamunivar vashister and so this place is best for pariharam for mangalya thosam and to cure marital discords between husband and wife. So pray at this temple to get close to yr husband or wife. This place was originally Thiru vashistergudi, then morphed to Thiru vathittagudi - to vathittagudi - to thittagudi now.
