Shri Shri Aswaklanta Temple - Featured Reviews (388)
The Aswakranta Devalaya Archaeological Site is situated on the North Bank of the river Brahmaputra in North Guwahati, Kamrup District. The site has two temples of Vishnu and three rock-cut caves facing the river Brahmaputra. Of these two temples, the one which exists at the foot hill of the hillock is known as Kurma Janardana Vishnu temple and the other at the hilltop is known as Aswakranta temple or Anantasayi Vishnu temple. Both the temples are erected upon the foundation of stone temple plinths of early period. Few sculptural works and carvings belonging to the early medieval period of 11th - 12th century CE. are found lying within the vicinity of the temple complex. According to sources : the temple was rebuilt by the Bijay Duara Phukan in 1720 C.E during the reign of Ahom King Swargadeo Siva Singha (1714-1744 C.E.). But it had been severely damaged due to earth quake in 1897 and was renovated in 1901 under the patronage of Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy.
Very calm place on the vicinity of Guwahati. This place can easily be accessed via river ferry. The temple feels atleast 200 years old. There are beautiful carvings on the temple's walls. Moreover, you can enjoy the majestic view of River Brahmaputra, away from the hustle of the city. The calmness and the wind breezing through you will put your mind at ease.
A very unique mediaeval Assamese Architecture. Dedicated to lord Vishnu and Arjuna.
Sri Aswaklanta Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located on the banks of River Brahmaputra in North Guwahati. It is one of the popular places of Pilgrimage in Assam and among the best places to visit in Guwahati. A calm cool breeze always passes through this natural beauty. Lots of monkeys and old trees surround the place. Aswaklanta Temple was built by the Ahom King Shiva Singha in 1720. According to mythology, when Lord Krishna was searching for Narakasur, his horse(Aswa) felt tired(klanta) here where Aswaklanta temple is located now.
This beautiful temple of Lord Vishnu, an ancient heritage of Assam has been preserved in its original form. It is situated on the bank of river Brahmaputra, has an amazing view and greenery all around. A must visit if you love nature and ancient structures. Untouched by modernisation is what makes this temple more worthy of it's existence!
A beautiful temple of the Ahom era, this Krishna Temple is a must visit for people who are touring the Northeast and starting their journey from Guwahati. The carvings are very interesting and intricate and they offer a fantastic insight into the abilities of the Ahoms. This place has retained a lot of its original glory as it is an Archaeological site, hence it hasn't been encroached by modern elements. Please be advised that the stone steps leading to the temple are very uneven and are a potential hazard during rainfall, when the stone becomes slippery.
It is in such a beautiful place but in the name of maintenance govt has done nothing. It is an archaeological site marked by the government but no development has been done. The pandits are very nice and polite. Very few people visit this place so it's calm and nice.
