Shri Pattabhirama Swami Temple - Hindu temple in Kamalapur - Ballari, India

On a weekday there are no tourists here absolutely. This is a very big and beautiful temple. Take your time to view numerous story sculptures here, which you may not see in detail in other famous temples of Hampi due to many other tourists around you.

Pattabhirama temple The second largest temple in Hampi dedicated to Lord Rama and houses a shrine of Goddess Lakshmi. Built in the 16th century by the Vijayanagara King Achyuta Deva Raya, the temple is unusually simpler in ornamentation in comparison to the others in Hampi. The temple is situated near the newly built Tungabhadra canal. Known for its splendid architecture, The temple complex faces east towards a large Pushkarni water tank and a now ruined chariot street. However, the main entrance is now closed and the present entry is through a gate on the southern wall. The temple compound comprises of a main shrine at the center and the Kalyana mandapa to its southeast. To the north of the temple is the Lakshmi temple. The entrance on the northern wall has a domed gopuram. There are four towers in four directions of the temple - east, west, north and south gate. The main tower in the east is built with brick superstructure and granite lower portions. There are some terracotta images visible. There is also a crescent boar-dragger emblem of the Vijayanagara kings near the archway of the tower. The tall 5 storied east gopura is in a ruined state. The entire temple area is fortified by strong walls.

Its very hard to see such a elegant and majestic temple become orphan !! Gopura, hallway , mantapas everything is so big and well planned and unfortunately everything has been turned into ruins. I curse each and every bahamanis for this barbaric act and I am sure each one of their descendants must have had a really bad fortune because of their ancestors dirty deeds.

Pattabhirama Temple is a large temple complex dedicated to Lord Rama. The temple complex is in very bad shape but thankfully one can see that the campus has a lot of building materials stocked up - i.e. repairs will happen. Additionally, we did not see any other tourists in this temple complex so it's fun to take your time and take in the sights at leisure.

This temple is not so famous one, and we would have also not visited it. But due to some spare time for us to check-in to the hotel, an autowala outside the hotel suggested us to visit it. And this happened to be the first visit in Hampi, we liked the huge structure of the temple and the ruins. It is a good to have a quick visit to this place. This place is very near to Hotel Mayura Bhuvneshwar and Clark's INN and as a govt landmark also very much near to the Busstand.

It's in the entrance of Kamalapur and a good example of VIJAYANAGAR architecture. The temple is huge and surroundings are calm and pleasent. The temple was closed as we visited it early at 8 AM, before it was opened.

Easy walk, from nearby hotels. No charge for entrance in March 2018. Spend about 30~45min here, unless you are a photographer. Seems less travelled, but worth the effort to visit here. Take time to walk around the back and see the glory that this place once held.
