'Mahalasa' is another name for Lord Vishnu in the form of his incarnation as the enchantress 'Mohini'. Several temples dedicated to this avatar of Lord Vishnu can be found along the west coasts of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala amongst other places. This temple located on Car Street in Kumta is believed to be more than four hundred years old. When I visited at around 4 pm on a weekday, there weren't many devotees, but I was assured that the temple is quite famous in the area and the presiding deity is the 'kuldevta' of several devotees and the weekends and festivals see huge crowds at the temple.
Nice and well maintained Hindu Temple with beautiful paintings and wooden idols of lord vishnu. Even the ceiling wooden work is awesome and maintained well. Even the inside wooden doorwork is awesome..A worthy visit with family and friends.
Very powerful and peaceful temple. We lived nearby area in 1984-85 opposite Urdu school. I remember watching the movie - bedara kannappa inside the temple in my childhood.

The temple is an architectural beauty..there are other temples in the vicinity. There is a local market which makes most of the shopping items available.
It's a temple at the center of the city. 5 minutes Walkable distance from bus depot. The teak wood ceiling carvings, zhumbar and carvings in main prayer hall are good and massive. Calmness and peaceful atmosphere. You can sit and relax for a while in prayer hall. Easily accessible and main road touch. Must visit place in Kumta
