Must Visit Temple in Aihole , After seeing temples in Aihole , Pattadkalu then we realised how our ancestors are rich in civilization and how vast is our Hindu culture ,Please read some article and History about this chalukya empire then you better know the places below writing some History about this Temple ..... The Durga temple is an early 8th-century Hindu temple located in Aihole, Karnataka, India. Originally dedicated to Surya, it has the most embellished and largest relief panels in Aihole depicting artwork of Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism and Vedic deities. Apart from its fine carvings, it is notable for its apsidal plan - a rare example among early Chalukyan Hindu temple architecture. Though dedicated to Surya, the temple is now named Durga because a durg or fortified lookout was constructed on top of it after the 13th-century during the wars between Hindu kingdoms and Islamic Sultanates. This rubble lookout survived through the 19th-century when this site was rediscovered (it is now gone, temple has been restored). The Durga temple is the most prominent attraction in Aihole for tourist and scholars. It is a part of a pending UNESCO World Heritage Site application.
I think tourism is not entertained properly here, other than these places kept clean the tourist has no restaurant facilities available here, no shops no parking facilities and no hygenic places to take rest. Tourists from other states has to pay extra cash for everything they buy more than the mrp mentioned. But the temple is still a pure piece of art
Heralded as the 'cradle of Hindu/ Dravidian temple architecture', Aihole is a tranquil village on the banks of Malaprabha River. Hundreds of temples pepper the villages and fields nearby. The most noteworthy among them is the Durga Temple composed of a semicircular apse, an elevated plinth and a gallery encircling the sanctum. The Lad Khan Temple is one of the earliest temples in the region and was initially a royal assembly hall and marriage mantapa. It was the chosen abode of the Muslim chief Lad Khan. Other major attractions in the area are the Huchimalli Temple with a sculpture of Lord Vishnu sitting atop a cobra, the Ravalphadi Cave Temple which celebrates the various incarnations of Lord Shiva, the Konti Temple Complex, the Umamaheswari Temple, the Jain Meguti Temple, and the two-storied Buddhist temple. Aihole, a historic site from ancient times, is a treasure trove of religious monuments and Hindu art. It stands as a must-see attraction in Karnataka, renowned for its exquisite temple architecture. Visiting Aihole is like stepping back in time to the Chalukya dynasty era, with a plethora of nearby temples to explore. Often referred to as the 'Cradle of Indian Architecture,' Aihole is a remarkable destination for history and art enthusiasts.
The name is a little misleading...its not dedicated to goddess durga , but something to do with durg( fort). The chalukya architecture continues and its finer here...the complex has around 7 monuments....the intricate art inside each of them is mind blowing...a must visit in the triad list...
A quaint village which after conservation efforts led to the present archaeological site to be preserved and developed to attract tourists. Parking is available at the entrance and tickets can be purchased at the counter or booked by scanning a QR code displayed at the counter. Keep in mind that tickets to the museum should be purchased separately. The museum is situated inside the complex and opens at 9am with the complex itself opening doors to the public by 6 am and remains up to 6pm.
