Shree Laxmanji Mandir - Hindu temple in Nashik - Nashik, India

The Laxman Temple in the enchanting Tapovan area of Nashik holds historical significance, as it marks the spot where Laxman, Lord Rama's brother, severed the nose of the demon Surpanakha, sister of Ravana. Surrounded by lush greenery and transformed municipal gardens, Tapovan was once part of the sacred Dandakaranya forest, associated with the epic Ramayana and known for meditation by great sages. Within the temple, an idol of Laxman in a meditative pose, a life-sized depiction of him taking action against Surpanakha, and idols of Lord Ganesh and Hanuman create a spiritually immersive atmosphere. The temple's backyard features a gaushala (cow shed), where the pujaris nurture a newborn calf. For those planning to visit, the Laxman Temple is a divine experience that contributes to Nashik's name, derived from Laxman's consequential act.

This is a very good temple in the Tapovan area of Nashik. It is the place where Laxman, brother of Lord Rama cut off the demon Surpanakha's nose. Surpanakha was Ravana's sister. Tapovan itself is a mesmerising area covered with lush greenery and dense forest, much of which have been converted to municipal gardens and parks. It is believed that Tapovan was part of the holy Dandakaranaya forest with the Godavari River flowing nearby. This place has close association with the epic Ramayana. Long years ago the forest was meant for meditation by the great sages, hence the name Tapo-van (meditate-forest). Inside the Laxman Temple we saw an idol of Laxman in a meditation pose. There was also a life size model of Laxman in action, cutting off Surpanakha's nose. There were also idols of Lord Ganesh and Hanuman. In the backyard of the temple there is a gaushala (cow shed), where we saw a new-born calf being taken care of by the pujaris. It is a temple worth visiting and gives a divine feeling. The holy city of Nashik gets its name from this action of Laxman cutting off the demon's nose (nakh).

The only temple of Laxman ji in India with a Seshnag avtar. It is believed that this is the place where Laxman ji used to tap for days before going for the battle with Meghnath. If you are in Nashik do visit this place. There is a temple of Shri Laxman Ji, and some statues and murals depicting various incidents related to the vanvas period and how Laxman Ji cut Surpanakhaa's nose. The Godavari river flows nearby.

Great time visiting here. This is historic place where laxmana cutted surpanakkas nose. It has so much history and there was no rush when we visited here. The temple is so calm and green. You can find the sculptures left side when you enter the temple. Lord ganesh idol is also present here.

I think this is the only temple where Lord Laxman is shown in Shesh-Nag Avatar. The statue is beautiful so as the big age old tree (see photos) I specially loved the tree which looks like a sculpture to my eyes. in front of it is a statue of Shri Hanuman, which is a rare case, mostly he is located in front of Lord Rama, but in this temple he is situated in front of Lord Laxman.
