Shree Damodar Mandir - Hindu temple in Vasco da Gama - South Goa, India

Shree Damodar temple is a Hindu temple of Lord Domadar in the port town of Vasco da Gama. It is said that there was some sickness in the town and Prasad (a holy coconut ) was brought from a sacred place called Zambaulim and placed here in Vasco. This place belongs to Mr. Joshi who is well known and a prominent businessman. It was a part of his house which latter became as a temple. Shree Damodar temple is about one kilometer away from the Vasco railway station and the main Kadamba bus station too. You can just walk to this place as the road is just inline to it. Every year a well known festival Saptaha is celebrated in the month August. This festival is very well known to all the Goans and other states of India. It is celebrated with lots of fun n fair the biggest in town with all kinds of stalls and a games center for children too. This year it was celebrated on a small scale with only Pooja and prayers because of the COVID pandemic. Hopefully the spirit will come alive next year for the Saptaha. A must visit place for everyone who comes to Vasco da Gama, Goa.

Like to visit the temple.. it's very quite n cool place.. one of the famous temple in vasco.. Every year damodar sapta is there .. love to visit the sapta... people in lakhs visit the sapta every year and also take the Darshan in this temple.

Shri damodar temple of vasco da gama is of the god of Zambaulim shri Damodar. Like corona some 80 to 90 years back city was passing with bad and paining days due to plague . So some elderly persons went to Zambaulim to pray and get blessings of shri Damodar to resque from horrible virus. They brought shriphala ( cocoanut) given to them from Zambsulim. That shriphal was kept in the hall of shri Subray Joshi house. Thus this place was known as Damodara saal. Saal means hall. Subsequently they started performing pooja and got converted into a temple in the house of Joshi family. Since long saptaha is celebrated by the people of the city. In recent years it is celebrated in large manner. A very big feryy covering entire area you can see now a days for a fortnight , where you could see two to four ferywalas in olden days. This god considered as the gramdev of vasco, Monday is the day of god when hundreds of local vasco citizens visit for blessing .
