SHOLAYAR RESERVE FOREST - Featured Reviews (1368)
This is actually a forest area near ChimmoniDam in Kerala. Basically a plantation area where the forest is receding quickly. Wild Animals, mostly elephants are commonly seen in flocks. The ambience is great. During holidays some people, tourists, visits the Dam site and they spends their time in these forests peacefully.
Best forest route ever If you travel in morning or evening definitely you can see lot of elephants and wild animals Last time i saw a famous elephants in sholayar ( KABALI) And i got best experience And main thing : don't disturb them and please keep the forest clean
Amazing. What an great experience... Will visit again and again
Wow, really amazing. Best for travelers, you can explore forest, enjoy scenario roads, witness wildlife, watch Dam, listen to waterfall and more one of the best kerala reserve forest. If you want random place to spend with family or friends whole day. This might be best
Unfortunately, we got the info from the police check post (which is about 20 km from sholayar) that after a few more km, the road is blocked for private vehicles - 2 wheelers & 4 wheelers, and that only ksrtc buses would be allowed in the final 10 or 15 km into the forest. So, i rode a few more km after the check post and returned. The route is simply out of the world. Rubber trees that bend in one direction, coconut palm that line up both sides of the road etc; all of them give that great paranormal feel that is often associated with forest rides. The silence of the route is worth noting which gets amplified by small waterfalls on the way. Just a few km after the check post, there's a hotel where you get good appam & egg curry. The tea there is heavenly :) One important thing: The tarmac enroute is really patchy to the point of being irritated. The off-road that comes after the poor tarmac simply killed my riding feel completely. Both stretches add up to more than 20 km!! So bad it was that i had pain in my forearms the whole day after the ride. Himalayans are listening right? I rode on my Access 125. It is an amazing vehicle which does incredible off-roads but this stretch was just too much for it. I'm not at all a fan of off-road. Hence I doubt i would ever ride this path again, unless Govt does some real road repair work. Wish Google Maps gave real-time info on road conditions. Photos & clips attached.
Definitely worth a visit! The wilderness, soothing feel, and greenery are priceless. The best time to go is during the winter season. That's awesome!
Very good road for bike ride. Full of green and wild animals. If you start your journey by 6 o click it will be good for photography and sight seeing. By that time the whole area will be foggy. It's amazing if you reach valparai. Not so crowded, peaceful, windy, blue sky,g golden sunshine . 75 % of the road is good.so many places to take photos. Don't leave any food items on the road.it attract animals and causes accidents. After started our journey through the check post we saw many monkeys blocking the road don't get too close to them they will bite you. There are small ponds and waterfalls near most of the road turns. Don't visit this place while summer. It will be get too hot by 11 am. After the monsoon season august and the months after that is good
