The dam was good. While going through Valparai- Athirapally road , the dam is on the way and we can see them. Few kms from here you can see the bottom of the dam, the other side. A mini park(grass)is also available in the dam. There is no entry fees or anything like that. The dam is open from morning 9AM. A good place for a walk and peaceful mind

Can be reached from both Kerala side and Tamilnadu. The roads of Kerala is not very well maintained.
The trip either from Kerala( Chalakudy) or Pollachi is worth it. Waterfalls, small and big, can be seen the entire route.
Amazing wildlife on the way can be spotted en-route.
We visited Valparai excellent location ...and surrounding areas we had booked a home-stay near sholayar dam the weather was slightly cold and rainy - but our eagerness spirits as the drive to that place is absolutely mind blowing. Just an amazing feel, the water sprinkles on your face with the freeze cloud. Amazing Sceneries ever had. It was a lovely place and kids will enjoy it. Such a wonderful trip..!
You need to drive from Valparai after reaching the 40 bends.
These are flat spreads mountains, need to drive a lot to cover places.
We did 200 Km on Valparai. Climbing plus visiting the spots.
Sholayar dam best time is mrng or late eveng around 4 /5 pm.
Majestic view must go place but don't spend much time, clik and exit to next place
