Shikari Mata Mandir - Featured Reviews (1627)
I visited Shikari Mata Mandir in October 2023, and it was an amazing experience. The temple is located approximately 18 kilometers from Janjehali and sits at an elevation of 3359 meters. This temple is often referred to as the crown of Mandi district due to its highest peak status. Shikari Mata Temple, situated atop Shikari Shikhar, is a roofless temple established by the Pandavas. It is said that the sage Markandeya meditated here for many years. Visitors can explore various trekking routes to Chindi, Janjehali, and more from Shikari. From temple you can witness the mountain ranges of Shimla, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti. The serene atmosphere on the way and the Deodar forests are truly captivating for the soul. A must-visit for nature lovers and trekkers.
Great experience as the temple is located in the lap of dense forest at a great height with snow-covered mountains all around .
The Shikari Devi temple is located on a hill top of Mandi district under middle Himalayan region with an altitude of around 3300 mt. Just google and know the mythological history behind Shikari Mata. The area lies under Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary surrounded by majority of high level Oaks (brown oak) associated with fir in opposite aspect. You have to walk up the stairs by around 600 mt from the parking area through the beauty of Kharsu oak forest. Amazing view while going through the apple orchards, dense mixed coniferous forest from . This was the sanctuary that in 1962 received official recognition from the Indian government. Goral, black bear, leopard, musk deer, and monal are just some of the animals that visitors to the jungle may see. The strange thing of the Shikari Mata temple is that despite the fact that the temple has no roof, no snow is spotted on temple premises during winters when the entire region around this temple is covered in snow up to several feet. After reaching at the temple location, the snowy peaks of Greater Himalayan Range in a line make me spellbound for a moment, no words to say but feel the beauty of nature and our existence in between. If you can book the forest rest house from the DFO, Shikari Devi WLS, you will get an unforgettable night halt near the Shikari Mata temple. Kindly do not pollute the environment by throwing plastics anywhere... save Himalayas...Save our Mother Nature.
Shikari Devi temple is about 18 Kms from Janjehli and connected by a jeepable Forest road. It is situated at an altitude of 3359 Mtr. Thick forests on the way to Shikari peak are amazing. Being the highest peak of Mandi District it is also called Crown of Mandi. Vast green pastures, captivating sunrise and sunset, panoramic view of snow ranges make this place favorite to nature lovers. The place receives a lot of snow during winters. The place can be approached from Karsog which is just 21 Kms from Shikari Devi. On the Shikari peak, there is a roofless temple of Shikari Devi, the Goddess of hunters and this temple is said to be established (Sathapit) by Pandavas. It is said that sage Markanday also meditated at this place for number of years. It has been observed that despite the fact that temple has no roof, no snow is spotted in temple premises during winters when the entire region around this temple is covered upto several feet by snow. Visitors can trek to Chindi, Karsog, Janjehli through different trek routes from Shikari. Adventurists can visit Kamrunag by undertaking a day long journey of 16 Kms by trekking the vast spread pastures on this hill top route with breathtaking scenic beauty and perfect calmness.
The Mandir is located at the highest point of Mandi District. There is no roof on the temple. One has to climb approx 1000 stairs to reach the Devi Mandir. The view from the top is beautiful. Was lucky to witness light snowfall even in October. Must visit
A Hindu temple situated at a heavenly location. Near to Churag town in Mandi district. The temple is now connected by road (whose condition is still improving) just a few stairs from last drive in point. The View from the top is amazing all around. There is facility of the night stays as well.
One of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh I have visited so far. To go up to the temple, there are steep stairs. But in the end there is a marvellous experience.
Shikari Devi Temple is a Hindu shrine located located atop Shikari Devi Peak, the highest peak in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh at an elevation of 3359 m. It is a popular pilgrimage site in Himachal and one of the must-see attractions in Mandi for trekkers.
