Nice and cool place. We have done mala puja and oil and paisam puja. It is a Jala Durga Deity. Original Deity under the river. Lots of monkeys are there. Wheelchair accessibility is there. Parking also available.

This is the divine devi temple ,situated on the bank of achenkovil river. It's a beautiful place surrounded around forest and monkeys ..devotees can offer oil , camphor , incense sticks and red cloth to devi maa, even they can get banana or peanuts for feeding monkeys. It was great trip to invoke our spiritual side of energy in the the temple. The temple closes around 10.30 am. There is ample space for car parking.

One of the famous Devi/Goddess temples in Alappuzha district located near 'Achankovil River'

Sharngakavu, or Chamakkavu, as it is popularly known, is an absolutely divine place to get in touch with your spiritual self. This temple is situated on the beautiful banks of the Achankovil river and offers a scenic view of the river on one side and thick, dense forests on the other. The temple has no ornate architecture and is beautiful in its simplicity. Bhagavathi Devi is the deity worshipped here, but you can also make offerings to Ganapathy and the Navagrahas. It is home to a large number of monkeys, who are often seen in and around the temple premises. They are quite friendly, and you can get peanuts and bananas to feed them. The place comes to life during the festival of Vishu, when you can see the 'Kettu Kaazhcha', wherein elaborately decorated temple cars called "Kuthira" and "Theru", as well as stilted mannequins of bullocks called "Kaala", are brought to the temple in a massive procession from far-flung regions. The kuthiras are hauled in by boats lashed together. Everything from peanuts to ceramics is sold at a variety of stalls. The vibes that you experience while the traditional Kerala music is playing are incredible. Every cell in your body can sense the energy flowing through it. You forget everything and are just immersed in the present moment. Plays, dramas, "Velakali" (a traditional martial dance depicting a fight sequence between the Pandavas and Kauravas), and other cultural programmes are shown at night. It's something you should do at least once in your life.

One of the most notable landmarks in Venmony is the Sharngakavu Devi Temple (Chamakkavu). Known for the monkeys thriving in its sacred grove, there is no explicit building structure for the temple, as its goddess has forbidden any construction at the site. The Vishu festival at the temple on Medam 1st usually falls on April 14 and is well known for its Kettu Kazhcha, in which huge decorated chariots and stuffed wooden horses known as Kuthiras are presented. There is a ample space for parking your vehicle's and all.
