A beautiful and peaceful place for a weekend getaway. It's a gem of West Bengal. We took the train and reached shantiniketan in 2.5hrs and was welcomed by the peaceful and serene atmosphere. The natural beauty is so relaxing and good for my soul! The famous Sonajhuri Haat has a variety of handmade things to buy from (from clothes, bags, notebooks, home decor) to what not! We also visited the Kasahara Cafe which have very good food at reasonable prices. Loved our stay and hope to visit Shantiniketan for some shanti, soon! Peaceful and beautiful as always.. People are good.. Best place for marketing various handmade products especially kantha stitch items (traditional art)and traditional bengali food.. a place where nature, tradition, Rabindranath Tagore, baul song and santhaal dance are dwelling with each other..
Bolpur was great, but the mid May heat here is no joke. If you are visiting here on a bike trip, the surrounding places can be visited in one day, just have to start early morning. The famous Khoyai Hat now is organize on every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, should not miss it, enriches overall experience.

A weekend trip to shantiniketan. Away from all the hustle and bustle of town, away from mundane lifestyle, away from all worries. The literary and artistic heritage this place offers is beyond expectations. This magnificent cultural center is standing tall with all its glory. My two day visit bought a calming effect on my mental health. The simplicity of this place has taught me that happiness is not what I see or crave for but it is what I believe in. Transportation from Kolkata can be by car or train. I preferred car. Staying at a near by hotel run by tribal women I came across one of the best hospitalities I have ever had. Big hotels and resorts may provide you with luxury and extravaganza but cannot provide you with warm homely feeling. Lunch was served at banalaxmi yet another small restaurant accommodated by tribal women SHGs. The food was delicious, actually it was like "ma ke haath Ka Khana". At pre evening I visited viswa Bharati where I got glimpse of art and architecture from the time of Rabindranath Tagore. The Kalo Bari building attracted me more as it was made up of mud and coal tar and the walls were covered with sculptures. I even saw the Green classroom concept. Students sat under trees and received education (away from high tech classrooms and smart TV boards) just like they did back in the time of Tagore. Which brings them more close to their roots. I am still under the impression of what I witnessed at Shantiniketan. After spending two days their away from work pressure and worries I am now finding a new way of viewing the world.

This is a place which resembles its name. Good for an outing from Kolkata for 2/3 days. Quiet and peaceful place for refreshing your mind, body and soul.
Teen pahari as the name says is a three layered structure inside Viswabharati. Beside this you would find a palm tree on which Gurudev has penned down a wonderful poem. "Taal gachh ek paye dariye.."
My accidental electric Scooter repaired this showroom with very carefully. All repair items available here. Staff and mechanic are well trained and bears good behaviour. Hope they progress more in future.

Hands down best momos at Shantiniketan and can beat some of the so called renowned momo offerings at Calcutta! At 40 you get mouth watering chicken steam momos with spicy green and red chutney and soup and the chutneys are good! Do try the fried momo

Flavors is a good restaurant is Santiniketan. Multi cuisine food available and good value for money. What is very important is they they have maintained the standard of the food quality and I feel that's an achievement indeed specially in these areas
