Shalimar Gardens - Park in Kapurthala - Kapurthala, India

Went to Shalimar Gardens. Built by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh in the style of Shalimar Gardens in Srinagar, Kashmir. It's abandoned now. The gardens are a shambles. It has the cenotaph of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh. Which is also abandoned. An engraving of a monkey on the steps. There are cenotaphs of his family members too. Overgrown bushes cover them. I didn't go near. I was afraid of snakes.

The gardens are no more. There are a couple of royal samadhs (mausoleums), made in red sandstone. These were beautifully made, and you can still see some of the excellent work that went into it. But they are completely neglected and in a horrible state of disrepair and apathy. Disheartening to see heritage buildings in such utter neglect. Punjab needs to do better.

This place is under renovation and gate is locked near monuments. Place is not safe to walk alone. The activities happening here are not worth mentioning. I think tourist department has to look into this and take action by keeping watchmen at appropriate place in 4 corners of the park.

The Shalimar Gardens where Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Maharaja Fateh Singh had met. There are also "Samadhis" of former rulers of Kapurthala State

Cleanliness is much required people throw garbage inside the park which is awful , few roads need to be maintained it's disgusting and dangerous for running and even walking . Rest park is big n good but proper maintenance is needed . Tendor of 3 crore is passed to maintain the Shalimar Bagh after completing gate work pls try to repair roads.. keep the heritage cities in mind and keep them clean..

It was a great place to visit long time ago....but now it is in pathetic condition. No maintenance at all.

This is located on Tarn Taran road in Kapurthala .This neat and clean. Many district social activities are held here. Festivals like Basant, Dussehra, Vaisakhi, Ram Lila are held with pump and show. Many political parties held meeting in it .It is also good place for morning Walk. Many Government offices are situated here.

it has a historical importance as it is samadh of King Jagatjit but it is not well managed and no efforts is seen to preserve it poor management commitee a random person restricted us from entering and said it is restricted but when we got in there we found already 4 5 persons sleeping inside this..not a gud thing for commitee who sever is responsible for managing.
