An absolutely fantastic experience here when we visited this historical landmark during our Motorcycle ride to Shivpuri last week. I have heard and read a lot of Tatya Tope Ji and it was fabulous to visit this monument dedicated to his memory. Every Indian must visit this place and get to know about one of the heroes of our freedom struggle. Jai Hind.
Good place to go , mostly people go for morning walk there. Rajeshwari temple is also just beside it so you can visit that also.

Tatya Tope was a brave man who led the fight against British Raj during first freedom struggle in India in 1857.He was commanding a small army for his lord, Nana Sahib and also fought in coordination with another legendary figure named Rani Laxmibai, the queen of Jhansi. He had captured Gwalior once but finally lost to British commanders after long battles. He was captured and tried at Shivpuri, summer capital of Gwalior Dynasty. He was hanged in 1859 at the spot where his memorial is created. A very basic structure but commemorating a great phase of history. One must visit the spot to show respect to a freedom fighter

The frontier history of India is inked with the blood of numerous magnanimous saints. Ramachandra Pandurang Tope, prevalently known as Tatya Tope, an overcome opportunity warrior and an Indian Maratha pioneer in the 1857 Uprising lost his life in the fight for Indian Independence. He is known to have helped Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi in the catch of Gwalior from the English pilgrim rulers. Sold out by Raja of Narwar Man Singh, a confided in companion, the man was caught and executed in Shivpuri on the eighteenth of April 1859. Tatya Tope opposed the provincial rulers since his dad was denied annuity he legitimately merited.
A personal adherent of Nana Sahib of Bithur, he progressed with the Gwalior contingent after the British reoccupied Kanpur and forced General Windham to retreat from the city. Later on, he came to the relief of Rani Lakshmi of Jhansi and with her seized the city of Gwalior. However, he was defeated by General Napier's British Indian troops at Ranod and after a further defeat at Sikarabandoned the campaign.[2] He was executed by the British Government at Shivpuri on 18 April 1859.
